OFC Futsal Championship
The OFC Futsal Championship is the main national futsal competition of the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) nations. It was first held in 1992. The competition was initially held every four years. From 2008 onwards, however, it became an annual tournament. Australia won every edition of the competition until it left the Oceania Football Confederation in 2006. Solomon Islands have won the three editions of the tournament which have taken place since then - including a decisive 8-1 victory over Fiji in the final of the 2009 edition. It is a qualification for the FIFA Futsal World Cup. The original name was the OFC Futsal Championship, from 2019, the tournament will be known as the OFC Futsal Nations Cup. Oceania Football Confederation
The Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) is one of the six continental confederations of international association football. The OFC has 13 members, 11 of which are full members and two which are associate members not affiliated with FIFA. It promotes the game in Oceania and allows the List of men's national association football teams#OFC (Oceania), member nations to qualify for the FIFA World Cup. OFC is predominantly made up of island nations where association football is not the most popular sport, with low GDP and low population meaning very little money is generated by the OFC nations. The OFC has little influence in the wider football world, either in terms of international competition or as a source of players for high-profile club competitions. 2008 Oceanian Futsal Championship
The 2008 OFC Futsal Championship was the fifth edition of the main international futsal tournament of the Oceanian region. It took place in Suva, Fiji from 8 June to 14 June 2008. The tournament also acted as a qualifying tournament for the 2008 FIFA Futsal World Cup in Brazil. The Solomon Islands won the tournament, and qualified for the World Cup. This was the first OFC Futsal Championship tournament not to include Australia as they left the OFC to join the Asian Football Confederation in 2006. The 2014 OFC Futsal Championship, also known as the OFC Futsal Championship Invitational 2014, was the tenth edition of the main international futsal tournament of the Oceanian region, organized by the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC). It took place from 12 to 16 August 2014, and was hosted by Païta, New Caledonia. Five teams took part in the tournament, including Malaysia (appearing as guest nation). Penalty Shoot-out (association Football)
A penalty shoot-out (officially kicks from the penalty mark) is a tie-breaking method in association football to determine which team is awarded victory in a match that cannot end in a draw, when the score is tied after the normal time as well as extra time (if used) have expired. In a penalty shoot-out, each team takes turns shooting at goal from the penalty mark, with the goal defended only by the opposing team's goalkeeper. Each team has five shots which must be taken by different kickers; the team that makes more successful kicks is declared the victor. Shoot-outs finish as soon as one team has an insurmountable lead. If scores are level after five pairs of shots, the shootout progresses into additional " sudden-death" rounds. Balls successfully kicked into the goal during a shoot-out do not count as goals for the individual kickers or the team, and are tallied separately from the goals scored during normal play (including extra time, if any). Overtime (sports)
Overtime or extra time is an additional period of play specified under the rules of a sport to bring a game to a decision and avoid declaring the match a tie or draw where the scores are the same. In some sports, this extra period is played only if the game is required to have a clear winner, as in single-elimination tournaments where only one team or players can advance to the next round or win the tournament. 2011 Oceanian Futsal Championship
The 2011 Oceanian Futsal Championship (OFC) was the eighth edition of the main international futsal tournament of the Oceanian region. It took place from May 16 to May 20, 2011, and was hosted by Fiji, which had also hosted three previous editions. The number of participating nations rose to eight, up from seven in 2010, as Kiribati made their first ever appearance at the OFC Futsal Championship. The defending champions, the Solomon Islands, retained their title, defeating Tahiti by six goals to four in the final. The tournament's Golden Ball (Player of the tournament) award went to Elliot Ragomo of the Solomon Islands, who also won Golden Boot award for the highest number of goals scored in the tournament. The 2010 OFC Futsal Championship was the seventh edition of the main international futsal tournament of the Oceanian region. It took place from 8 August to 14 August 2010, and was hosted by Fiji, which had also hosted the two previous editions. The number of participating nations rose to seven, up from four in 2009, as New Zealand, Tuvalu and French Polynesia (under the name "Tahiti") returned to the competition. Those three nations had previously participated in 2008. Vanuatu, New Caledonia, defending champion Solomon Islands, and hosts Fiji, all returned from 2009.
