1993–94 National Hurling League
The 1993–94 National Hurling League was the 63rd edition of the National Hurling League, which ran from 17 October 1993 until 8 May 1994. Thirty-two teams participated in the league, comprising four divisions of eight teams. Two points were awarded for a win and one point was awarded for a drawn game. The knock-out phase featured the top four teams from division one and the top two teams from division two. Tipperary won the league, beating Galway by 2-14 to 0-12 in the final. Galway, the 1993 All-Ireland runners-up, suffered just one defeat, topped the group and guaranteed themselves a place in the National League semi-final. George Frend
George Frend (born 1970) is an Irish former hurling, hurler. At club level he played with Toomevara GAA, Toomevara, and also lined out at inter-county level with various Tipperary GAA, Tipperary teams. Career Frend first played hurling at juvenile and underage levels with the Toomevara GAA, Toomevara club, winning numerous championship titles from under-12 up to under-21 level. He later won three successive Tipperary Senior Hurling Championship, Tipperary SHC medals from 1992 to 1994. The second of these victories was later converted into a Munster Senior Club Hurling Championship, Munster Club SHC title, before later losing the 1994 All-Ireland Senior Club Hurling Championship final, 1994 All-Ireland club final to Sarsfields GAA (Galway), Sarsfields. Frend was later part of the Toomevara four-in-a-row team from 1998 to 2001. He claimed an eighth and final Tipperary SHC medal in 2003. Westmeath GAA
The Westmeath County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) ( ga, Cumann Lúthchleas Gael Coiste Chontae na hIarmhí) or Westmeath GAA is one of the 32 county boards of the GAA in Ireland, and is responsible for Gaelic games in County Westmeath. Athenry
Athenry (; ) is a town in County Galway, Ireland, which lies east of Galway city. Some of the attractions of the medieval town are its town wall, Athenry Castle, its priory and its 13th century street-plan. The town is also well known by virtue of the song "The Fields of Athenry". Athenry GAA
St. Mary's, Athenry is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in Athenry in County Galway, Ireland. In men's competitions, the club is a dual club competing in both Gaelic football and hurling at various age levels. The club also competes in camogie competitions, and has won several county, province and national titles in the sport. History Athenry GAA club was founded in 1885. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the club fielded both Gaelic football and hurling teams. The club also participated in Gaelic handball, handball competitions. While camogie was played locally from at least the 1920s, Athenry's camogie club was formally established in 1973. Hurling The club contested its first county final in 1977. Down GAA
The Down County Board ( ga, Cumann Lúthchleas Gael Coiste Chontae An Dún) or Down GAA is one of the 32 county boards of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) in Ireland, and is responsible for the administration of Gaelic games in County Down, Northern Ireland. The County Board is responsible for preparing the Down county teams in the various Gaelic sporting codes; football, hurling, camogie and handball. The county football team was the second from the province of Ulster to win an All-Ireland Senior Football Championship (SFC), following Cavan, and also the first team from Northern Ireland to win the Sam Maguire Cup since partition, doing so in 1960. Paul Flynn (Waterford Hurler)
Paul Flynn (born 17 December 1974) is an Irish former hurler who played as a left wing-forward at senior level for the Waterford county team. He joined the team in 1993 and was a regular member of the starting fifteen until his retirement in 2008. Flynn is Waterford's top championship scorer of all-time. He has won three Munster winners' medals, one National League winners' medal and one All-Star award. He ended up as an All-Ireland runner-up on one occasion. At club level Flynn is a one-time Munster medalist with Ballygunner. In addition to this he has won eight county club championship medals. Also a player of association football, Flynn also won schoolboy international caps as a soccer goalkeeper will being a trainee with Aston Villa he also played a season with Waterford United in the League of Ireland.
