1991–92 FIS Ski Jumping World Cup
The 1991–92 FIS Ski Jumping World Cup was the 13th World Cup season in ski jumping and the 2nd official World Cup season in ski flying with second small crystal globe awarded. Season began in Thunder Bay, Canada on 1 December 1991 and finished in Planica, Slovenia on 29 March 1992. The individual World Cup winner was then sixteen year old Finnish "wunderkind" Toni Nieminen, one of the biggest surprises and one of the youngest stars in World Cup history, dominating the season with 8 World Cup wins, Four Hill Tournament title and Olympic gold on large hill and men's team event; Nations Cup was taken by Team of Austria. 21 men's individual events on 15 different venues in 11 countries were held on the three different continents (Europe, Asia and North America). Toni Markus Nieminen (born 31 May 1975) is a Finnish former ski jumper who competed from 1991 to 2004, with a brief comeback in 2016. He is one of the most successful ski jumpers from Finland, having won both the World Cup overall title and the Four Hills Tournament in 1992, and three medals at the 1992 Winter Olympics. Falun
Falun () is a city and the seat of Falun Municipality in Dalarna County, Sweden, with 37,291 inhabitants in 2010. It is also the capital of Dalarna County. Falun forms, together with Borlänge, a metropolitan area with just over 100,000 inhabitants. Falun was originally famous for its copper mine, and is today an important service and industrial city even though the mine is closed (since 1992). FIS Ski Flying World Championships
The FIS Ski Flying World Championships is a ski flying event organised by the International Ski Federation (FIS) since 1972 and held every two years. Overview The event takes place on hills much larger than ski jumping hills, with the K-point set between and . Unlike ordinary ski jumping, the Ski Flying World Champion is determined after four jumps which take place over two days. 40 jumpers qualify for the competition and jump the first round, 10 are eliminated, and the 30 remaining jumpers compete in the last three rounds. The person with most points combined after four jumps is declared the World Champion. In 2004, the FIS introduced a team event between national teams of four jumpers, with two jumps each.
