1990 Athens Trophy
The 1990 Athens Trophy was a women's tennis tournament played on outdoor clay courts in Athens, Greece that was part of Tier V of the 1990 WTA Tour. It was the fifth edition of the tournament and was held from 10 September through 16 September 1990. Fourth-seeded Cecilia Dahlman won the singles title and earned $13, 500 first-prize money. WTA Tier V Tournaments
The WTA Tier V tournaments were the fifth, and lowest, level of women's tennis tournaments on the WTA Tour between 1990 and 1992 and from 2001 to 2005. The line-up of events varied over the years, with tournaments being promoted, demoted or cancelled. Most of the Tier V tournaments became Tier IV events between 1993 and 2000 and from 2006 to 2008. In 2009, WTA changed the tournament categories, so that most of the Tier III, Tier IV and Tier V tournaments from 2008 were placed in a single, WTA International tournaments, category. Clay Court
A clay court is one of the types of tennis court on which the sport of tennis, originally known as "lawn tennis", is played. Clay courts are made of crushed stone, brick, shale, or other unbound mineral aggregate depending on the tournament. The French Open uses clay courts, the only Grand Slam tournament to do so. Clay courts are more common in Continental Europe and Latin America than in North America, Asia-Pacific or Britain. Two main types exist: red clay, the more common variety, and green clay, also known as "rubico", which is a harder surface. Although less expensive to construct than other types of tennis courts, the maintenance costs of clay are high as the surface must be rolled to preserve flatness. Karin Kschwendt (born 14 September 1968) is a former professional tennis player who represented Luxembourg, Germany and Austria at various points in her career. She reached her career-high ranking of world No. 37 on 12 August 1996. In doubles, she went as high as No. 45 in February 1996. Kschwendt was born in Switzerland to Austrian parents Heinz and Edith, but grew up in Luxembourg, where she lived for 23 years. The 1990 WTA Tour (officially titled 1990 Kraft General Foods World Tour after its sponsor) was the elite professional tennis circuit organized by the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) for the 1990 tennis season. Leona Lásková (born 7 April 1970) is a Czech former professional tennis player. Biography Lásková reached top rankings on the professional tour of 122 in singles and 93 in doubles. On the WTA Tour, Lásková's best singles performance came at Athens in 1988, when she made it through to the semi-finals, beating second seed Judith Wiesner en route. Jana Pospíšilová
Jana Rychlá (born Jana Pospíšilová on 23 March 1970) is a former professional tennis player from the Czech Republic. Career As a junior, Pospíšilová was a member of the Czechoslovak team which won the 1986 World Youth Cup in Japan and she was runner-up to Natasha Zvereva in the girls' singles at the 1987 French Open. In both 1988 and 1989 she competed for Czechoslovakia in the Federation Cup. When Czechoslovakia won the competition in 1988, Pospíšilová featured in all five World Group matches, as the doubles partner of Jana Novotná.
