The 1989 Taipei Women's Championships was a women's tennis tournament played on outdoor hard courts in Taipei, Taiwan that was part of the Category 1 tier of the 1989 WTA Tour. It was the fourth edition of the tournament and was held from 24 April through 30 April 1989. First-seeded Anne Minter won the singles title. Finals Singles Anne Minter defeated Cammy MacGregor 6–1, 4–6, 6–2 * It was Minter's only singles title of the year and the 4th and last of her career. Doubles Maria Lindström / Heather Ludloff defeated Cecilia Dahlman / Nana Miyagi 4–6, 7–5, 6–3 * It was Lindstrom's first doubles title of her career. Anne Minter
Anne Minter (born 3 April 1963) is a former tennis player from Australia. She competed for her native country at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, and was an Australian Institute of Sport scholarship holder. Minter won four singles titles on the WTA Tour: 1987 Taipei, Singapore; 1988 Puerto Rico; 1989 Taipei. She was a quarterfinalist at the Australian Open in 1988, beating fourth seed Pam Shriver in the fourth round. She twice reached the fourth round at Wimbledon, upsetting ninth seed Hana Mandlíková in the third round in 1988. She reached her highest individual ranking at no. 23 on 4 July 1988. Maria Lindström
Maria Lindström (born 7 March 1963) is a Swedish former tennis player. She won two doubles WTA titles as well as a further ten doubles ITF tournaments during her career. On 15 February 1988, Lindström reached a singles ranking high of world number 87 and on 23 October 1995 ranked world number 44 in doubles. She attained her highest singles ranking (57th in the world) in August 1983, and her highest doubles ranking (37th in the world) in November 1987. Hardcourt
A hardcourt (or hard court) is a surface or floor on which a sport is played, most usually in reference to tennis courts. It is typically made of rigid materials such as asphalt or concrete, and covered with acrylic resins to seal the surface and mark the playing lines, while providing some cushioning. Historically, hardwood surfaces were also in use in indoor settings, similar to an indoor basketball court, but these surfaces are rare now. The Taipei Women's Championships is a defunct WTA Tour-affiliated women's tennis tournament played from 1986 to 1989 and from 1992 to 1994. It was held in Taipei, Taiwan and played on indoor carpet courts from 1986 to 1988, and on outdoor hard courts in 1989 and from 1992 to 1994. The 1980s tours were sponsored partly by Virginia Slims, and the 1990s events were sponsored by Kraft Foods and Procter & Gamble, the latter of which were named P&G Taiwan Women's Open or Taiwan Open in short.
