Grand Prix Tennis Circuit
The Grand Prix tennis circuit was a professional tennis tour for male players that existed from 1970 to 1989. The Grand Prix and World Championship Tennis (WCT) were the two predecessors to the current tour for male players, the ATP Tour, with the Grand Prix being more prominent. Background Before the Open Era, popular professional tennis players, such as Suzanne Lenglen and Vincent Richards, were contracted to professional promoters. Amateur players were under the jurisdiction of their national (and international) federations. Later professional promoters, such as Bill Tilden and Jack Kramer, often convinced leading amateurs like Pancho Gonzales and Rod Laver to join their tours with promises of good prize money. A clay court is one of the types of tennis court on which the sport of tennis, originally known as "lawn tennis", is played. Clay courts are made of crushed stone, brick, shale, or other unbound mineral aggregate depending on the tournament. The French Open uses clay courts, the only Grand Slam tournament to do so. Clay courts are more common in Continental Europe and Latin America than in North America, Asia-Pacific or Britain. Two main types exist: red clay, the more common variety, and green clay, also known as "rubico", which is a harder surface. Guillermo Pérez Roldán
Guillermo Pérez Roldán (born 20 October 1969) is a former professional tennis player from Argentina. Pérez Roldán was known particularly as a strong clay court player. He turned professional in 1986. Between 1987 and 1993, he won nine top-level singles titles. His best Grand Slam performance came at the 1988 French Open, where he reached the quarter-finals, beating Alberto Mancini, Tore Meinecke, Patrik Kühnen and Stefan Edberg on the way, before being knocked out by Andre Agassi. Peter Ballauff (born 29 September 1963) is a former professional tennis player from West Germany. Career Ballauff was primarily a doubles player but did reach the singles quarter-finals at Palermo in 1989. En route he defeated world number 21 Andrés Gómez. Rüdiger Haas
Rüdiger Haas (born 15 December 1969) is a former professional tennis player from Germany. Career Despite winning two Grand Prix doubles titles, Haas never competed in the main draw of a Grand Slam event. He did however make some Grand Slam appearances in the juniors. The biggest tournament he participated in as a singles player was the 1991 German Open, part of the ATP Super 9 series. He lost in the first round to Omar Camporese from Italy. The only occasion that he made it past the opening round of a Grand Prix or ATP Tour tournament was in the 1991 Kremlin Cup, where he defeated Soviet Sergei Skakun, before being eliminated in the second round by Jakob Hlasek. The Campionati Internazionali di Sicilia (''International Championships of Sicily''), also known as the Palermo Open, was a men's professional tennis tournament held annually at the Circolo Tennis Palermo in Palermo in Italy. Held from 1935 until 2006, the tournament was played on outdoor clay courts and was a part of the ATP Tour schedule from 1990 to 2006. The event was part of the ATP World Series from 1990 until 1999 and part of its successor, the ATP International Series, from 2000 until its final edition in 2006. Paolo Canè (born 9 April 1965; ) is a former tennis player from Italy. Canè turned professional in 1983. During his career, he won three top-level singles titles ( Bordeaux in 1986, Båstad in 1989, and Bologna in 1991) and achieved much success at the Olympics, reaching the semi-finals in 1984 (when it was a demonstration event) and the quarter-finals in 1988.
