1988–89 Cypriot Third Division
The 1988–89 Cypriot Third Division was the 18th season of the Cypriot third-level football league. Digenis Akritas Ipsona won their 2nd title. Format Fourteen teams participated in the 1988–89 Cypriot Third Division. All teams played against each other twice, once at their home and once away. The team with the most points at the end of the season crowned champions. The first two teams were promoted to 1989–90 Cypriot Second Division. The last three teams were relegated to the 1989–90 Cypriot Fourth Division. Point system Teams received two points for a win, one point for a draw and zero points for a loss. Cypriot Third Division
The Cypriot Third Division (Greek: Πρωτάθλημα Γ΄ Κατηγορίας) is the third tier football league competition in Cyprus, run by the Cyprus Football Association. Each year, the top finishing teams of the league are promoted to the Cypriot Second Division, and the lowest finishing teams are relegated to the STOK Elite Division. History The Cypriot Third Division was held for the first time in the 1970–71 season as the third level of the Cypriot football. All the teams played against each other twice, once at their home and once away. The team with the most points at the end of the season crowned champions. Othellos Athienou FC
Othellos Athienou ( el, Οθέλλος Αθηαίνου) is a football club based in Athienou, Larnaca, Cyprus and competes in the Cypriot Second Division. The football department is the only activity of the club at the moment, which participated for the first time in the Cypriot First Division, the top football level division in Cyprus. The club colours are green and white. History Othellos was founded in 1933. The club colours are green and white and they play in Othellos Athienou Stadium. In 1967, the club joined the Cyprus Football Association (CFA) and since then has participated regularly in the all championships of the Association. 1988–89 Cypriot Cup
The 1988–89 Cypriot Cup was the 47th edition of the Cypriot Cup. A total of 68 clubs entered the competition. It began on 16 November 1988 with the first preliminary round and concluded on 10 June 1989 with the final which was held at Tsirion Stadium. AEL Limassol won their 6th Cypriot Cup trophy after beating Aris 3–2 in the final. Format In the 1988–89 Cypriot Cup, participated all the teams of the Cypriot First Division, the Cypriot Second Division, the Cypriot Third Division and 24 of the 42 teams of the Cypriot Fourth Division. The competition consisted of seven knock-out rounds. In the preliminary rounds each tie was played as a single leg and was held at the home ground of the one of the two teams, according to the draw results. All teams played against each other twice, once at their home and once away. The team with the most points at the end of the season crowned champions. The last three teams were relegated to the 1989–90 Cypriot Second Division. The champions ensured their participation in the 1989–90 European Cup and the runners-up in the 1989–90 UEFA Cup. Changes from previous season APEP, Alki and Anagennisi were relegated from previous season and played in the 1988–89 Cypriot Second Division. Phileleftheros
''O Phileleftheros'' ( el, Ὁ Φιλελεύθερος, meaning "The Liberal") is the largest newspaper (by circulation) in Cyprus, with about 26,000 copies daily (2002). Established in 1955, it is also the oldest Greek-language daily newspaper in circulation on the island. Neos Aionas Trikomou ( el, Νέος Αιώνας Τρικώμου, "New Century Trikomou") was a Cypriot football club based in Trikomo. Founded in 1900, was playing sometimes in Second and sometimes in the Third and Fourth Division. After the Turkish invasion of Cyprus and occupation of the city of Trikomo in 1974, the team was displaced to the southern part of the island, in Limassol.
