1987 Memorial Cup
The 1987 Memorial Cup occurred May 9–15 at the Oshawa Civic Auditorium in Oshawa, Ontario. It was the 69th annual Memorial Cup competition and determined the junior ice hockey, major junior ice hockey champion of the Canadian Hockey League (CHL). Oshawa earned the right to host by winning a "Super Series" between themselves and the champions of the Emms Division, the North Bay Centennials. Given that Oshawa defeated North Bay in the OHL finals as well, only three teams participated that year. Participating teams were the Ontario Hockey League champion and host Oshawa Generals, as well as the winners of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League and Western Hockey League which were the Longueuil Chevaliers and Medicine Hat Tigers. Medicine Hat won their first Memorial Cup, defeating Oshawa in the final game. Oshawa Civic Auditorium
The Oshawa Civic Auditorium was an indoor arena in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada. It operated from 1964 to 2006, and was primarily used as an ice hockey venue for the Oshawa Generals. The auditorium was built as a replacement to the Hambly Arena, which burned down in 1953. The auditorium was part of a larger multi-purpose recreational complex. Construction The construction of the auditorium was led by a committee of residents with the slogan: "Let's build it ourselves, for ourselves." Volunteers raised $1.4 million from the community to fund the project, including $476,000 from the local General Motors employees union (Canadian Auto Workers) through payroll reductions. The City of Oshawa provided 20 acres of land on Thornton Road South, previously designated for a cemetery. Victoriaville Tigres
The Victoriaville Tigres are a junior ice hockey team that plays in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. The team is based in Victoriaville, Quebec, Canada. The team plays its home games at the Colisée Desjardins. History The franchise was granted for the 1982–83 season in Longueuil, Quebec, where they were known as the Longueuil Chevaliers. Victoriaville, Quebec
Victoriaville is a town in central Quebec, Canada, on the Nicolet River. Victoriaville is the seat of Arthabaska Regional County Municipality and a part of the Centre-du-Québec (Bois-Francs) region. It is formed by the 1993 merger of Arthabaska, Saint-Victoire-d'Arthabaska and Victoriaville, the name of the last being used for the merged town. Robert Desjardins
Robert Desjardins (born May 4, 1967) was a Canadian professional goaltender who had a stellar junior and university career but only a short professional career. Born in Verdun, Quebec, Desjardins played in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League from 1984 to 1988, each year with a different team. In 1984-85 he was with the Shawinigan Cataractes; in 1985-86 Hull Olympiques; in 1986-87 Longueuil Chevaliers; and in 1987-88 Victoriaville Tigres. Despite his team changes, Desjardins won several league awards, including leading goalie in 1985-86 and 1986–87, most valuable player in 1986-87, and defensive rookie in 1984-85. Yves Racine (born February 7, 1969) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey defenceman who played in the National Hockey League (NHL). Biography As a youth, Racine played in the 1981 and 1982 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournaments with a minor ice hockey team from Charlesbourg, Quebec City.
