1986 Tanduay Rhum Makers Season
The 1986 Tanduay Rhum Makers season was the 12th season of the franchise in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA). Transactions First PBA title The Tanduay Rhum Makers were a team on a mission right at the start of the 1986 PBA season, playing their first full conference with Ramon Fernandez. The Rhum Makers were reinforced by the pair of Rob Williams, a first-round pick by the Denver Nuggets in the 1982 NBA draft, and Andre McKoy. Tanduay started out with four straight victories before a skid of four straight losses, the Rhum Makers would win seven games in a row, the last two in the eliminations and their first five matches in the semifinals. After being thwarted by Great Taste in their first attempt to reach the finals for the first time since 1978, the Rhum Makers would formalized its entry to the championship round against Great Taste following a 141-123 win over Shell on May 29. Arturo Valenzona
Arturo "Turo" F. Valenzona (born November 5, 1942), is a former Filipino basketball player and head coach. Valenzona played college ball for the Far Eastern University before eventually playing in the Manila Industrial and Commercial Athletic Association and later in the Philippine Basketball Association with U/Tex. Coaching career After his playing years, Valenzona coached the FEU Tamaraws to several championships in the UAAP and the Intercollegiate tournament. He gave Solidmills one interclub and one MICAA title, and led APCOR to six straight championships. He was also coach of the RP Youth team in 1978 and 1980. He assisted coach Nic Jorge during the 1978 Bangkok Asian Games. Valenzona was a low-key coach who made very smart decisions on the bench, particularly in clutch situations. Rob Williams (basketball)
Robert Aaron Williams (May 5, 1961 – March 10, 2014), was an American professional basketball player who was selected by the Denver Nuggets in the first round (19th pick overall) of the 1982 NBA draft. A 6-foot-2 point guard from the University of Houston, Williams played in two National Basketball Association (NBA) seasons for the Nuggets. When Williams reported to Denver's training camp as a rookie, he was badly out of shape, prompting Nuggets coach Doug Moe to describe Williams as "a fat little hog". Williams' collegiate career included a trip to the 1982 NCAA Final Four, where his Houston Cougars, better known as Phi Slama Jama, fell to the North Carolina Tar Heels in the National Semifinals. Derrick Pumaren
Frederick "Derrick" S. Pumaren, better known on his nickname Manong Derrick, is a Filipino basketball coach who is currently the coach of the De La Salle Green Archers in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP). The 1986 Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Reinforced Conference was the first conference of the 1986 PBA season. It started on April 6 and ended on June 17, 1986. The tournament requires two import each per team with both standing 6"3 and below. Format The following format will be observed for the duration of the conference: * Double-round robin eliminations; 10 games per team; Teams are then seeded by basis on win–loss records. * Team with the worst record after the elimination round will be eliminated. * Semifinals will be two round robin affairs with the five remaining teams. Results from the elimination round will be carried over. * The top two teams in the semifinals advance to the best-of-seven finals. Benny Michael Anders (born October 3, 1963) is an American former basketball player. Anders was a leader on the Guy Lewis-coached Houston Cougars teams during the early 1980s. The team featured a set of players called the Phi Slama Jama basketball fraternity that included Hakeem Olajuwon, Clyde Drexler, Michael Young, Alvin Franklin, Reid Gettys, Larry Micheaux and Anders.
