1986 Meath Senior Football Championship
The 1986 Meath Senior Football Championship is the 94th edition of the Meath GAA's premier club Gaelic football tournament for senior graded teams in County Meath, Ireland. The tournament consists of 14 teams, with the winner going on to represent Meath in the Leinster Senior Club Football Championship. The championship starts with a group stage and then progresses to a knock out stage. Navan O'Mahonys were the defending champions after they defeated Skryne in the previous years final, but they lost their crown controversially to Nobber at the quarter-final stage. Martry Harps returned to the senior grade after claiming the 1985 Meath Intermediate Football Championship title. Summerhill claimed their 5th S.F.C. title when defeating Seneschalstown 0–13 to 1–8 in the final at Kells on 28 September 1986. Meath Senior Football Championship
The Meath Senior Football Championship is an annual Gaelic Athletic Association club competition between the top Gaelic football clubs in Meath, Ireland. Qualification for subsequent competitions The winners of the Meath Senior Football Championship winners qualify to represent their county in the Leinster Senior Club Football Championship and in turn, go on to the All-Ireland Senior Club Football Championship. Competition format From 2020, 16 teams compete in the championship, with four groups of four teams. The top two finishers in each group qualify for the quarter-finals. The bottom two teams in each group progress to the relegation playoffs. The overall loser in the relegation playoffs gets relegated to the Intermediate Division. The 1986 Meath Intermediate Football Championship is the 60th edition of the Meath GAA's premier club Gaelic football tournament for intermediate graded teams in County Meath, Ireland. The tournament consists of 18 teams. The championship starts with a group stage and then progresses to a knock out stage. This was Ballinabrackey's return to the grade after a four-year absence as they were promoted from the J.F.C. after claiming the 1985 Meath Junior Football Championship title. On 19 October 1986, Gaeil Colmcille marked their 20th anniversary with their 1st Intermediate championship title since being formed from the Drumbaragh Emmets and Kells Harps clubs in 1966, when they defeated Meath Hill 1–6 to 0–7 in the final at Kells. The Kerry County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA), or Kerry GAA, is one of the 32 county boards of the GAA in Ireland. Joe Cassells
Joe Cassells (born 10 October 1954) is an Irish former Gaelic footballer. His league and championship career with the senior Meath county team spanned sixteen seasons from 1974 to 1990. Born in Navan, County Meath, Cassells first excelled as a Gaelic footballer at club level with Navan O'Mahony's. In a club career that spanned three decades he won a record eight county senior championship medals. Cassells also won two county senior championship medals as a hurler. Cassells made his debut on the inter-county scene at the age of seventeen when he was selected for the Meath minor team. He enjoyed one championship season with the minor team, ending the year as a Leinster medal winner. Cassells subsequently joined the Meath under-21 team, however, he enjoyed little success in this grade. He made his debut with the Meath senior team during the 1974 championship. Navan O'Mahony's is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in the town of Navan in County Meath, Ireland. The club competes in Meath competitions. With 20 Senior Football wins they are the most successful football club in Meath. The club has also won 2 Senior Hurling Championships placing them in the top 15 most successful hurling sides in the county. History The idea of forming a new Gaelic football club in Navan was first mooted during a late evening discussion at the house of the late Peter Hughes, Rathaldron, Navan, with co-founders, the late Eddie Duignan and Jack Callaghan spearheading the move. Trim GAA
Trim GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in Trim, in County Meath, Ireland. The club fields both Gaelic football and hurling teams. It competes in Meath GAA competitions. Trim is known as the home of hurling in Meath and the Meath Senior Hurling Championship final was held there each year until the redevelopment of its facilities meant it was moved to Pairc Tailteann. 2011 Football Relegation Trim finished at the bottom of Group A, with 3 points from 5 games and point difference of -30, the lowest of any team that year. Nobber GFC is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in Nobber, County Meath, Ireland. The club competes in Meath GAA competitions. The club has won the Meath Senior Football Championship once when North Meath GAA (which consisted of a few clubs in North Meath including Nobber) won the title in 1950. Seneschalstown GAA is a small rural Gaelic Athletic Association club from Beauparc/Kentstown parish in County Meath, founded in 1932. The club ground is situated about 6 miles east of Navan and 3 miles south of Slane. The club has a history in all levels of GAA football over the years and more recently with both its Senior Men and Ladies' teams. St Patrick's is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in the village of Stamullen, in Meath, Ireland. The club competes at Intermediate level in football and Junior level in hurling in Meath GAA competitions. The club was founded in January 1950 by the amalgamation Stamullen and Julianstown GAA clubs. Skryne GFC is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in the Village of Skryne, in County Meath, Ireland. The club mainly plays Gaelic Football. It competes in Meath GAA competitions. Skryne has the second most Meath Senior Football Championship titles after Navan O Mahony's. Every All-Ireland Winning Meath team has had a Skryne player as a panel member.
