1985 Grand Prix (tennis)
The 1985 Nabisco Grand Prix was a professional men's tennis circuit held that year. It consisted of 71 tournaments held in 19 different countries. The tour incorporated the four ITF grand slam tournaments, three World Championship Tennis tournaments and the Grand Prix tournaments. Total prize money for the circuit was $23 million. The circuit was administered by the Men's International Professional Tennis Council (MIPTC). In November 1985 the MIPTC sued player–management agencies ProServ and IMG alleging that these firms were holding the tennis game hostage and were 'exerting extensive power over players'. The 1985 circuit marked the last time the Australian Open was held in November before moving to its current slot in January. Grand Slam (tennis)
The Grand Slam in tennis is the achievement of winning all four major championships in one discipline in a calendar year, also referred to as the "Calendar-year Grand Slam" or "Calendar Slam". In doubles, a team may accomplish the Grand Slam playing together or a player may achieve it with different partners. The 1985 Benson and Hedges Open was a men's Grand Prix tennis tournament played on outdoor hard courts in Auckland, New Zealand. It was the 18th edition of the tournament and was held from 7 January to 14 January 1985. Seventh-seeded Chris Lewis won the singles title. Broderick Dyke (born 31 December 1960) is a former professional tennis player from Australia. Dyke enjoyed most of his tennis success while playing doubles. Layendecker's highest doubles ranking was world No. 32. Peter Doohan
Peter Doohan (2 May 1961 – 21 July 2017) was an Australian tennis player who won three consecutive Australian Hard Court Championships singles titles (1984, 1985, 1986), which remains an Open era record for that tournament. He won a further two singles titles at the South Australian Open in 1984 and San Louis Potosi tournament in Mexico in 1988. He also won five doubles titles during his career. Kelly Graeme Evernden (born 21 September 1961) is a former professional tennis player from New Zealand. Evernden turned professional in 1985 and won his first tour doubles title in 1986 at Cologne. Brad Drewett (19 July 1958 – 3 May 2013) was an Australian tennis player and ATP official. He was the 1975 and 1977 Australian Open junior champion and the youngest player at age 17 to win the title since Ken Rosewall and John Newcombe. Danny Saltz (born July 30, 1961) is a former professional tennis player from the United States. Career Saltz played collegiate tennis for the University of California, Los Angeles. His first Grand Slam appearance was at the 1981 US Open, where he lost in a straight sets loss to Bruce Manson, in a match which lasted just 20 games. John Basil Fitzgerald OAM (born 28 December 1960) is a former professional tennis player from Australia who played right-handed with a single-handed backhand.
