1983 World Cup (men's Golf)
The 1983 World Cup took place 8–11 December 1983 at the Pondok Indah Golf and Country Club in Pondok Indah, Pondok Pinang, Kebayoran Lama, South Jakarta, Indonesia. It was the 30th World Cup event. The tournament was a 72-hole stroke play team event with 32 teams (of which Germany withdrew from the competition). Each team consisted of two players from a country. The combined score of each team determined the team results. The United States team of Rex Caldwell and John Cook won by seven strokes over the Australia team of Terry Gale and Wayne Grady and Canada team of Dave Barr and Jerry Anderson The individual competition for The International Trophy, was won by Dave Barr three strokes ahead of Rex Caldwell. Jerry Anderson (golfer)
Gerald Ashton Anderson (22 September 1955 – 9 March 2018) was a Canadian professional golfer. Anderson was born in Montreal, Quebec and then moved to Cambridge, Ontario. Anderson played on the European Tour for most of the 1980s. In 1984 he won the Ebel European Masters – Swiss Open, by shooting a 27 under par total of 261, which was a record 72-hole score to par on the European Tour until Ernie Els shot a 29 under par score at the 2003 Johnnie Walker Classic. Anderson finished ninth on the European Tour Order of Merit in 1984, making it into the top fifty. He was a member of the U.S.-based PGA Tour in 1990 and 1992. He represented Canada at the Alfred Dunhill Cup in 1985 and at the World Cup in 1983, 1987, and 1989. He was inducted into the Ontario Golf Hall of Fame in 2002 and the PGA of Canada Hall of Fame in 2016. Anderson died in Kitchener, Ontario in 2018 at the age of 62. Brian Waites
Brian J. Waites (born 1 March 1940) is an English professional golfer. Although he turned professional in 1957, he played little top-level golf for the next 20 years, but then has considerable success, winning twice on the European Tour, five times on the Safari Circuit and playing in the 1983 Ryder Cup. After reaching 50 he had further success as a senior, winning the PGA Seniors Championship twice, and winning four times on the European Senior Tour. Professional career Waites turned professional in 1957. He was an assistant professional at Hesketh Golf Club in Southport, becoming the professional at Saltburn Golf Club in Saltburn-by-the-Sea from 1961, before moving to Brough Golf Club on Humberside in 1965. Jose Priscillo G. Diniz (born 12 December 1948) is a Brazilian professional golfer. Diniz was born in São Paulo. He comes from a family which boasts several other professional golfers, including his grandfather, but he did not turn professional himself until the age of 28, having previously been a practicing lawyer. As an amateur he was twice Brazilian Amateur champion and he also won the 1975 South American Amateur Championship.
