1982 Camden London Borough Council Election
The 1982 Camden Council election took place on 6 May 1982 to elect members of Camden London Borough Council in London, England. The whole council was up for election. The election, like the election across the country, was marked by the emergence of the SDP–Liberal Alliance. However, despite winning 25% of the vote across Camden, no Alliance councillors were elected. Few seats changed hands overall, with the Conservatives gaining two seats from Labour in Bloomsbury in the south and losing one seat to Labour in West Hampstead and one in Highgate. The Conservatives dominated the north of the seat, winning 19 of the 26 seats in Hampstead parliamentary constituency; Labour dominated the centre, winning 17 of 19 in St Pancras North, and the south, winning 9 of 14 in Holborn and St Pancras South. , it was the last time that the Conservatives have seriously challenged for outright control of the council. King's Cross is a ward of the London borough of Camden, in the United Kingdom. The ward has existed since the creation of the borough on 1 April 1965 and was first used in the 1964 elections. The population of the ward at the 2011 Census was 11,843. In 2018, the ward had an electorate of 7,274. The Boundary Commission projects the electorate to rise to 8,459 in 2025. Sir Alan Thorpe Richard Wood (born 4 April 1954) is a British public servant who served from 2006 to 2015 as the corporate director for Children and Young People's Services in the London Borough of Hackney. Career Born in Stepney, Wood read social sciences at the University of York and then trained as a teacher at University of Birmingham, working as a history teacher from 1977. From 1982 until 1990 he was a Labour local councillor for the London Borough of Camden for the Kilburn ward. After 13 years as a teacher, Wood moved to work for the London Borough of Southwark's education department in 1990 as their head of pupil support and special educational needs. Katherine Allen (born 25 January 1955) was the Director of Amnesty International UK (AIUK) from 2000 to 2021. Early life and education Katherine Allen was the daughter of William Allen and Patricia Allen (née Middleton). Tessa Jowell
Tessa Jane Helen Douglas Jowell, Baroness Jowell, (; 18 September 1947 – 12 May 2018) was a British Labour Party politician and life peer who served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Dulwich and West Norwood, previously Dulwich, from 1992 to 2015. Alan Greengross
Sir Alan David Greengross (15 April 1929 – 13 August 2018) was a British politician, who served as the final leader of the Conservative Party on the Greater London Council (GLC). Born in London, Alan's father Morris was Mayor of Holborn in the 1960s, while his sister Wendy became a well known counsellor. Greengross was educated at University College School in Hampstead, and then undertook National Service with the Royal Air Force before studying law at Trinity College, Cambridge. After graduation, he joined the family business, the precision engineering firm Indusmond (Diamond Tools) Ltd; he later became its chair and managing director. Flick Rea
Felicity Marion Peel Rea (née Corbin, born c. 1937), known as Flick Rea, is an English Liberal Democrat politician in Camden, north west London, who for 35 years represented the Fortune Green ward on Camden Council, before her retirement in 2021. Early life and education Rea, originally named Marion Felicity Peel Corbin, was the daughter of Lieutenant Colonel Peel Corbin and his wife. Her father, a descendant of Sir Robert Peel, was headmaster at Huish's Grammar School. His daughter was educated at Weirfield School in Taunton. It had been her ambition to be an actress since the age of five, and she appeared in local amateur stage productions with the Pleiades Players and Taunton Thespians.
