The 1982 Badminton World Cup was the fourth edition of an international tournament Badminton World Cup. The event was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from 15 September to 19 September 1982. Competitions for doubles were not conducted. Indonesia won men's singles event while Denmark won women's singles event. The 1983 Badminton World Cup was the fifth edition of an international tournament Badminton World Cup. The event was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from 16 August to 21 August 1983. China won titles in 3 disciplines : Both the singles events and Women's doubles. South Korea won Men's doubles while cross country pair from Denmark and England won the mixed doubles title. Badminton World Cup
The World Cup in badminton was an annual tournament organized by the International Management Group (IMG). It was held from 1979 to 1997. After the tournament ceased for seven years, Badminton World Federation decided to bring it back as invitational tournament in 2005, but it was ended after the 2006 event. Liem Swie King (; born 28 February 1956) is an Indonesian former badminton player who excelled from the late 1970s through the mid-1980s. He won the All England in 1978, 1979 and 1981. He was one of the world's leading singles players of his era. A world level player in men's doubles as well as men's singles, he was known for the ferocity of his jumping smash. Early life Liem was born on 28 February 1956 in Kudus Regency, Central Java. His parents were Ng Thian Poo and Oei See Moi from Putian, Fujian. He was the only son of eight children. During elementary school, he studied at Sekolah Tionghoa, and later moved to SD Negeri Dema'an II in 1965. Han Jian (; born July 6, 1956 in Liaoning) is a Chinese retired badminton player in the early and mid 1980s when China first entered the International Badminton Federation (now Badminton World Federation). Career He was one of the world's leading players in his era, known for his cool and steady play. In China he is nicknamed "sticky candy" (牛皮糖), owing to his much-used tactic of using long rallies to pressurize an opponent into making mistakes. Lene Køppen
Lene Køppen (born 5 May 1953) is a former badminton player from Denmark who won numerous Danish national and major international championships from the early 1970s through the early 1980s. Noted for her speed and athleticism, she and Camilla Martin are the only Danish women to win both the World (1977) and All-England (1979, 1980) singles titles. In the first IBF World Championships in 1977 she captured mixed doubles (with Steen Skovgaard) as well as women's singles to become the first of only seven players, through 2010, to win two events in the same edition of this tournament. Verawaty Fadjrin (; 1 October 1957 – 21 November 2021) was an Indonesian badminton player who won international titles spanning from the late 1970s to the end of the 1980s. Tall and powerful, at one time or another she played each of the three variations of the sport (singles, doubles, and mixed doubles) at the highest world level. Career During a relatively brief period as a regular singles competitor, Fadjrin won the 1980 IBF World Championships in Jakarta over fellow countrywoman Ivana Lie. Zheng Yuli (, born 1963) is a retired female badminton player from China. Career She earned a bronze medal as a semifinalist at both the 1985 IBF World Championships and 1987 IBF World Championships in women's singles, dropping three set matches in each case to her compatriots Han Aiping and Li Lingwei respectively. She won women's singles at the Japan Open (badminton), Japan Open in 1984 and at the Denmark Open (badminton), Denmark Open in 1984 and 1986. Prakash Padukone
Prakash Padukone (born 10 June 1955) is a former Indian badminton player. He was ranked World No. 1 in 1980; the same year he became the first Indian to win the All England Open Badminton Championships. He was awarded the Arjuna award in 1972 and the Padma Shri in 1982 by the Government of India.
