Phil Bayton
Philip Bayton (born 18 September 1950) is a former road cyclist from Great Britain, who was a professional from 1973 to 1989. Amateur Bayton joined the Stourbridge Cycling Club as a boy where, after a year of club rides, he started racing. Joining the Thornhill Cycling Club in Birmingham he won a handicap race at Hirwaun in South Wales as a 16-year-old junior and a year later was part of the GB Olympic squad under Norman Sheil. After finishing third in third in the Star Trophy Series on 1970 and 1971, he finally won the Star Trophy in 1972 which led to him being selected for the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, West Germany. After being part of an 80-mile breakaway, he initially finished 5th in the road race, ahead of teammate Phil Edwards won the bunch sprint to finish 6th. However, after Spanish rider Jaime Huelamo failed a drug test, he was later moved up to 4th. Hugh Cameron (cyclist)
Hugh Cameron is a champion racing cyclist, having won the madison at the British National Track Championships in three consecutive years with Paul Curran. He first became interested in cycling as a schoolboy, it was at Grangefield Grammar School, Stockton-on-Tees in 1968 that he set up a cycling club along with Brian Cossavella. Cameron has a master's degree in economics and was a senior lecturer at University of Manchester. Michael Bennett (cyclist)
Michael John "Mick" Bennett (born 8 June 1949, Birmingham) is a British former cyclist and cycle race promoter. Cycling career He won the bronze medal in Team Pursuit in the 1972 Munich and 1976 Montreal Games. He represented England in the 1 km time trial, at the 1970 British Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh, Scotland. Four years later he competed in the scratch and pursuit disciplines and won a gold medal in the 4,000 metres team pursuit at the 1974 British Commonwealth Games in Christchurch, New Zealand. He was five times a British champion winning the British National Sprint in 1977, two British National Madison Championships (1973 & 1975) and two British National Individual Time Trial Championships (1971 & 1972). Maurice Burton (cyclist)
Maurice Burton (born 25 October 1955) is an English cycle shop owner and former racing cyclist from Catford, London. Born in London to an English mother and a Jamaican father, Maurice Burton was the first black British champion in cycling. His first taste of success came when he won the Junior Sprint national title in 1973. He won the amateur scratch title the following year, raced over a 20 km distance although he was booed as he crossed the line. He went on to represent Britain at the 1974 Commonwealth Games, but was not selected for the Olympic squad in 1976. Burton became frustrated by the racism pervasive in Britain at the time, he moved to Belgium in 1977, basing himself in Ghent. He was described as the first black professional cyclist. Burton rode 56 professional Six Day events, and retired from competitive cycling after a serious racing accident at the Buenos Aires Six Day in 1984. The British National Team Pursuit Championships are held annually as part of the British National Track Championships organized by British Cycling. Prior to 1996, there were two separate team pursuit championship events for amateur and professional riders.
