1972 Gujarat Legislative Assembly Election
The 4th Gujarat Legislative Assembly election was held in 1972. Indian National Congress won 140 seats out of 168 seats. While, NCO won 16 seats. Congress performed better in this election and gained 47 seats. Total of 852 men and 21 women contested the election. Total 167 men and 1 woman won in the elections. The number of polling stations was 17,994 and the number of electors per polling station was 695. Gujarat Legislative Assembly or Gujarat Vidhan Sabha is the unicameral legislature of the Indian state of Gujarat, in the state capital Gandhinagar. Presently, 182 members of the Legislative Assembly are directly elected from single-member constituencies (seats). It has a term of 5 years unless it is dissolved sooner. 13 constituencies are reserved for scheduled castes and 27 constituencies for scheduled tribes. From its majority party group or by way of a grand coalition cabinet of its prominent members,the state's Executive namely the Government of Gujarat is formed. Ghanshyam Oza
Ghanshyam Chhotalal Oza (25 October 1911 – 12 July 2002) was the Chief Minister of Gujarat, India from 17 March 1972 to 17 July 1973. He had a B.A. and L.L.B. He was a member of the Legislative Assembly of Saurashtra State from 1948 to 1956. He later became a member of the Legislative Assembly of Bombay state in 1956. He was a member of the Lok Sabha from 1957 to 1967 and again from 1971 to 1972. Later, he was a member of the Rajya Sabha from 10 April 1978 to 9 April 1984. Dahegam is a city and a municipality in Gandhinagar district in the state of Gujarat, India. History During 1257 AD, Gujarat was under the Khilji dynasty. In India, President's rule is the suspension of state government and imposition of direct Union government rule in a state. Under Article 356 of the Constitution of India, if a state government is unable to function according to Constitutional provisions, the Union government can take direct control of the state machinery.
