1972 (The Black Crowes EP)
''1972'' is a studio EP by American rock band the Black Crowes, released on May 4, 2022. It is an album of cover songs. Recording Brothers Chris and Rich Robinson, who reformed the Black Crowes in 2019, thought an album of cover songs would be a good step toward releasing an album of new material. ''Rolling Stone'' notes: "As the Robinson brothers attempt to rebuild their creative partnership, the sessions were like 'good baby steps' for them, Chris says, 'a less-pressure situation' than new songs." The Black Crowes plan to begin recording an album of new material in January 2023. The EP contains covers of rock songs from 1972: the Rolling Stones's " Rocks Off", T. You Wear It Well
"You Wear It Well" is a song written by Rod Stewart and Martin Quittenton, performed by Stewart. It uses an arrangement markedly similar to that of "Maggie May", one of Stewart's hits from the previous year. Stewart recorded "You Wear It Well" for the 1972 album '' Never a Dull Moment'', and released it as a single on 12 August. The song became an international hit, reaching number one on the UK Singles Chart. In the US, "You Wear It Well" peaked at number 13 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 chart. Stewart performed the song live on BBC's ''Top of the Pops'' with the full lineup of Faces, along with Quittenton on classical guitar and Dick "Tricky Dicky" Powell on fiddle joining them. The Black Crowes
The Black Crowes are an American rock band formed in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1984. Their discography includes eight studio albums, four live albums and several charting singles. The band was signed to Def American Recordings in 1989 by producer George Drakoulias and released their debut album, '' Shake Your Money Maker'', the following year. Their follow-up, '' The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion'', reached the top of the ''Billboard'' 200 in 1992. "Moonage Daydream" is a song by English singer-songwriter David Bowie. It was originally recorded in February 1971 at Radio Luxembourg's studios in London and released as a single by his short-lived band Arnold Corns in May 1971 on B&C Records. Bowie subsequently re-recorded the song later that year with his backing band the Spiders from Mars—comprising Mick Ronson, Trevor Bolder and Mick Woodmansey—for release on his 1972 album ''The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars''. Sven Pipien (born 30 May 1967, in Hanover, Germany) is a musician best known as the bassist of the southern rock band The Black Crowes. Biography Sven Pipien began his musical career playing bass with Atlanta-based rock outfit Mary, My Hope. The band recorded one full-length LP in 1989 (''Museum'') and one EP in 1990 (''Suicide Kings'') and garnered enough college radio popularity to earn them opening slots on headlining tours for Love and Rockets and Jane's Addiction. Their style, which included elements which would later be heard with the emergence of grunge in the early-to-mid 1990s, was out of place with much of the mainstream music scene at the time and the band split up in 1991. Barrett Strong
Barrett Strong (born February 5, 1941) is an American singer and songwriter. Strong was the first artist to record a hit for Motown, although he is best known for his work as a songwriter, particularly in association with producer Norman Whitfield. Among his most famous work at Motown, Strong wrote the lyrics for many of the songs recorded by the Temptations. He was born in West Point, Mississippi. Lowell Thomas George (April 13, 1945 – June 29, 1979) was an American singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and record producer, who was the primary guitarist, vocalist, songwriter and founder/leader for the rock band Little Feat. Martin Quittenton
Martin Quittenton (22 April 1945 – 16 April 2015) was a British guitarist and composer. He played in the blues rock band Steamhammer, formed in 1968. Their debut album '' Steamhammer'' was released in 1969. Quittenton also worked with Rod Stewart, along with Pete Sears, Micky Waller, and fellow Steamhammer guitarist Martin Pugh. In collaboration with Stewart, Quittenton co-wrote the international hit singles "Maggie May" and "You Wear It Well", along with the British top ten single " Farewell", from Stewart's 1974 album '' Smiler''. Stewart invited Quittenton to join his group The Faces, but Quittenton was not attracted by the wild off-stage antics for which the Faces were notorious. Marc Bolan
Marc Bolan ( ; born Mark Feld; 30 September 1947 – 16 September 1977) was an English guitarist, singer and songwriter. He was a pioneer of the glam rock movement in the early 1970s with his band T. Rex. Bolan was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2020 as a member of T. Rex. In the late 1960s, he rose to fame as the founder and leader of the psychedelic folk band Tyrannosaurus Rex, with whom he released four critically acclaimed albums and had one minor hit "Debora".
