The 1962–63 Iraq FA Basra First Division (the top division of football in Basra) was organised by the Basra branch of the Iraq Football Association. Basra's teams were split into three divisions for the season. The First Division began on 9 October 1962, and Al-Minaa topped the table ahead of their B team to secure the league title. Iraq FA Basra Premier League
The Iraq FA Basra Premier League ( ar, دوري الاتحاد العراقي لمنطقة البصرة) was the top-level division of football in Basra between 1948 and 1973. It was controlled by the Basra branch of the Iraq Football Association and was one of several regional league championships played in Iraq at the time, with others including the Baghdad, Kirkuk and Mosul leagues. The first champions of the competition were Al-Minaa, who won the title in the 1948–49 season. The regional leagues folded in 1973 and were replaced by the Iraqi National First Division. Al-Minaa were the competition's most successful team with 15 titles. Al-Minaa
Al-Minaa Sports Club ( ar, نادي الميناء الرياضي, lit=Port Sports Club) is an Iraqi multi-sport club based in Al-Maqal, Basra that participates in the Iraq Division One, the second tier of Iraqi football. It is one of the most popular clubs in Iraq, particularly in the south, and became the first club outside Baghdad to win the Iraqi Premier League. Al-Minaa was founded on November 22, 1931, in Al-Maqal. In 1974, the club was merged with another team called Al-Bareed to form a single club called Al-Muwasalat, and it was a strange situation because the Al-Bareed team were based in Baghdad while Al-Minaa were based in Basra and the two teams met in Baghdad on the day of the match only, so after just one season the club was dissolved and Al-Minaa returned in their place. Basra ( ar, ٱلْبَصْرَة, al-Baṣrah) is an Iraqi city located on the Shatt al-Arab. It had an estimated population of 1.4 million in 2018. Sharikat Naft Al-Basra ( ar, فريق شركة نفط البصرة, lit=Basra Petroleum Company), known as BPC for short, was an Iraqi football team based in Basra. They became Iraq's first ever national cup winners when they won the 1948–49 Iraq FA Cup that was played between teams from across the country. Al-Junoob Sport Club ( ar, نادي الجنوب الرياضي), is an Iraqi football club based in Basra, that plays in Iraq Division Three. History Al-Junoob Sports Club was founded in 1952 by Mr. Abboud Al Shubbar, who was chosen as the club president at the beginning of its foundation by members of the General Assembly, which was made up of 72 members. Then Mr. Kadhim Jbarah became the club's president from 1953 to 1969, during which time sports teams were formed: football, basketball, volleyball, boxing, weightlifting, bodybuilding, table tennis, badminton, and cycling team, with the number of club members increasing to 250.
