1958 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships
The 1958 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships were held in Prague, Czechoslovakia. This event was held under the auspices of the International Canoe Federation. The men's competition consisted of four Canadian (single paddle, open boat) and nine kayak A kayak is a small, narrow watercraft which is typically propelled by means of a double-bladed paddle. The word kayak originates from the Greenlandic word ''qajaq'' (). The traditional kayak has a covered deck and one or more cockpits, each se ... events. Two events were held for the women, both in kayak. This was the fifth championships in canoe sprint. The Soviet Union won their first medals at these championships. György Mészáros (30 April 1933 – 14 September 2015) was a Hungarian sprint canoeist who competed from the mid-1950s to the early 1970s.
