Frederick IX Of Denmark
Frederick IX ( da, Christian Frederik Franz Michael Carl Valdemar Georg; 11 March 1899 – 14 January 1972) was List of Danish monarchs, King of Denmark from 1947 to 1972. Born into the House of Glücksburg, Frederick was the elder son of Christian X of Denmark, King Christian X and Alexandrine of Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Queen Alexandrine of Denmark. He became crown prince when his father succeeded as king in 1912. As a young man, he was educated at the Royal Danish Naval Academy. In 1935, he was married to Princess Ingrid of Sweden and they had three daughters, Margrethe II of Denmark, Margrethe, Princess Benedikte of Denmark, Benedikte and Queen Anne-Marie of Greece, Anne-Marie. Heidi Ryom
Heidi Ryom Kristensen (26 August 1955 – 5 October 2013) was a Danish ballerina and educator for the Royal Danish Ballet. She began dancing at the Royal Danish Ballet school and became an in 1972 before being made a corps dancer at the Royal Danish Ballet two years later. In 1982, Ryom was appointed principal solo dancer at the Royal Danish Theatre before retiring from her position as a solo dancer in 1997 and became a character dancer and educator. She was appointed Knight of the Order of the Dannebrog in 1988 and was promoted to Knight First Class of the Order of the Dannebrog eight years later. Biography On 26 August 1955, Ryom was born Heidi Ryom Kristensen in Copenhagen. She was the daughter of the car dealer Kurt Kristensen and Jette Ryom. Gunnar Asgeir Sadolin
Gunnar Asgeir Sadolin (5 February 1874 – 17 March 1955) was a Danish businessman. Early life Sadolin was born in Valløby, the son of parish priest Ole Jørgen Sadolin (1826–1908) and Louise Suzette Emilie Marcussen (1838–1906). Sadolin passed the preliminary exams at the University of Copenhagen in 1890 and then worked for half a year in a mechanical workshop. He had aspirations to become an artist and therefore studied at Copenhagen Technical School, the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts and Kristian Zahrtmann's art school in 1890–96. He was considered a promising student but temporary visual impairment led him into the theoretical and practical study of dyes. Burial finds in Egypt had recently brought attention to encaustic paintings, and this inspired him to conduct a series experiments successful with wax-based dyes. Johannes Bjerg
Johannes Clausen Bjerg (26 January 1886 – 17 February 1955) was a Danish sculptor who worked primarily in the El Greco-style. Early life Born in Ødis near Kolding, Bjerg attended the Latin School in Kolding before serving an apprenticeship with A.L. Johansen & Son in 1907 during which he created an oak bust of his father. Thereafter he spent an extended period in Copenhagen (1908–11) during which he created a silver medal for a bronze bust of his father. In 1911, he went to Paris to associate with progressive artists of the times such as Picasso, leading to his Cubic bronze bust of the Finnish sculptor Bertil Nilsson (1912). Career While in Paris, Bjerg became a member of Section d'Or association, in which Auguste Agero (1880–1945) became a source of Cubic inspiration. Holger Nielsen
Holger Louis Nielsen (18 December 1866 in Copenhagen – 26 January 1955 in Hellerup) was a Danish fencer, sport shooter, and athlete. He competed at the 1896 Summer Olympics in Athens. He is probably best known for drawing up the first modern set of rules for the game of handball. Fencing Nielsen's main sport was fencing, in which he competed in the sabre. At Athens, Nielsen placed third in the sabre event. He split his matches in the five-man, round-robin tournament. Nielsen defeated Adolf Schmal and Georgios Iatridis, but lost to Telemachos Karakalos and Ioannis Georgiadis. This 2-2 record put Nielsen in third place. Firearms competitions In the military rifle event, Nielsen quit the competition after the first day. He had shot 20 times out of the full 40, though his score was unknown. Michael Kvium
Michael Otto Albert Kvium (born 15 November 1955) is a Danish artist. He has excelled in a number of fields such as painting, illustrating, sculpting and various performing arts, performance genres. Since the early 1980s, he has created grotesque realistic works, depicting the darker side of life. Biography Born in Horsens in the east of Jutland, Kvium studied painting at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts under Albert Mertz and Stig Brøgger. His paintings and graphic works often resemble comic strip art or extensions of 17th-century Baroque paintings. They depict the more negative aspects of Western culture. Monica Ritterband
Monica Ritterband (born 26 August 1955) is a Danish artist, who previously worked as a journalist and speaker. Ritterband is the daughter of two Holocaust survivors; artist Olly Ritterband and Daniel Ritterband, who were originally from Transylvania, Romania. Ritterband graduated from the Gammel Hellerup Gymnasium and was later trained as a journalist at the Danish School of Journalism. She worked as a journalist for '' Ekstra Bladet'' and '' Weekendavisen'' and was a presenter at the DR's TV news for several years. In 1990, she became CEO of Carlsberg Group. Since 1997, she has devoted herself to her art full-time.
