1950 Ottawa Municipal Election
The city of Ottawa, Canada, held municipal elections on December 4, 1950. To date, this election elected the most members of city council in Ottawa history. 28 aldermen from 14 wards, plus 4 controllers and the mayor for a total of 33 on council. Voters overwhelmingly voted to reduce the council down to 18 aldermen in a plebiscite which saw its largest opposition in the more francophone Ottawa and By Wards. The mayoral race featured the same three candidates as the 1948 race. However, Goodwin defeated Bourque this time. He would only serve for 9 months however, as he died on August 27, 1951. He was replaced by city controller Dr. Charlotte Whitton, the first female controller in city history. Three new wards were added to council, due to the annexation of parts of Nepean Township and Gloucester Township. Wilbert Hamilton
C. Wilbert Hamilton (November 17, 1897–June 9, 1964) was a Canadian politician. He was an alderman on Ottawa City Council from 1932 to 1933 and from 1935 to 1956, and a member of the Ottawa Board of Control from 1957 to 1962. His tenure in civic politics set a record for longest continual years of service. Early life Hamilton was born in South March, Ontario, the son of immigrants William John Hamilton from Ireland and Mary Gordon of Scotland. His father was a farmer in Carp, Ontario. The family moved to Dalhousie Ward in 1909. He went to high school at Lisgar Collegiate Institute and attended Teacher's College, where he trained to be a printing technical teacher. Following his education, he worked as a compositor at the government printing bureau, where he would work for over 30 years, retiring as superintendent. Dalhousie Ward

It was created in 1888 when it was annexed by Ottawa from Nepean Township, becoming Ottawa's eighth ward. It was merged with Wellington Ward in 1994 to become Somerset Ward. Capital Ward or Ward 17 (French: ''Quartier Capitale'') is a city ward located in the centre of Ottawa, Ontario. Situated just south of downtown Ottawa, the ward includes the communities of Old Ottawa East, Old Ottawa South, the Glebe, Heron Park, Carleton University, and Riverview (Ottawa)#Sub neighbourhoods, Riverside Out of all the wards currently in existence, Capital ward has existed the longest. It was originally created in 1909 from parts of Wellington Ward and Central Ward when the Glebe was settled. The original capital ward consisted solely of the Glebe. Wellington Ward
Wellington Ward was one of the original five wards of the city of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada created in 1855 from West Ward in Bytown, Upper Canada. It existed until 1994 when it was amalgamated with Dalhousie Ward to become Somerset Ward. The original ward consisted of the city west of the Rideau Canal and south of Wellington Street. It has traditionally consisted of Ottawa's Centretown and Downtown neighbourhoods. Prior to 1952, it consisted of the area between Bank Street and Bronson Avenue (and north of the Grand Trunk Railway following the creation of Capital Ward).
