The 1948 United States Senate election in Nebraska took place on November 2, 1948. Senate Majority Whip Kenneth S. Wherry was re-elected to a second term, defeating former Representative Terry Carpenter. He won by a larger margin than 1942, due to the absence of a third party candidate. Thomas Dewey
Thomas Edmund Dewey (March 24, 1902 – March 16, 1971) was an American lawyer, prosecutor, and politician who served as the 47th governor of New York from 1943 to 1954. He was the Republican candidate for president in 1944 and 1948: although he projected to win the 1948 election, he was ultimately defeated in an upset to incumbent Harry S. Truman. Raised in Owosso, Michigan, he was a member of the Republican Party. Scottsbluff is a city in Scotts Bluff County, in the western part of the state of Nebraska, in the Great Plains region of the United States. The population was 14,436 at the 2020 census. Scottsbluff is the largest city in the Nebraska Panhandle, and the 13th largest city in Nebraska. Scottsbluff was founded in 1899 across the North Platte River from its namesake, a bluff that is now a U.S. National Park called Scotts Bluff National Monument.
