China, officially the People's Republic of China (PRC), is a country in East Asia. It is the world's most populous country, with a population exceeding 1.4 billion, slightly ahead of India. Liao Xilong
Liao Xilong (; born June 1940) is a retired general in the People's Liberation Army. Biography Liao was born in Sinan, Guizhou Province. He enlisted in the People's Liberation Army (PLA) in January 1959, and joined the Communist Party of China (CPC) in February 1963. He graduated from the Basic Department of the Military Academy of the PLA in 1981. He was elevated to the deputy commander of the Chengdu Military Region in 1985. He spent months studying national defense at PLA National Defense University in 1986. He was promoted to the position of commander of the Chengdu Military Region and the vice Party secretary there in 1995. From 1999 to 2001, he took graduate classes in Sociology at Peking University. In 2002, he was appointed the director of the General Logistics Department of the PLA and a member of the Central Military Commission of the Party, and a year later, of the state. Zhang Zizhong
Zhang Zizhong (; August 11, 1891 – May 16, 1940) was a general of the Chinese National Revolutionary Army (NRA) during the Second Sino-Japanese War. Born in Linqing, Shandong, he was the highest- ranked officer and the only Army group commander of the NRA to die in the war. He was killed-in-action during the Battle of Yichang after refusing to retreat from the front lines. He showed great valor in the field and was regarded as one of the most valiant and respectable Chinese generals by the Imperial Japanese Army during the Second Sino-Japanese War. Because he was lieutenant general with the effective rank of full general at the time of his death, and was posthumously promoted to full general, he was also one of the highest-ranked Allied officers killed in action in World War II. Song Zheyuan
Sòng Zhéyuán (宋哲元) (October 30, 1885 – April 5, 1940) was a Chinese general during the Chinese Civil War and Second Sino-Japanese War (1937–1945). Biography Early life and education Born in the village of Zhaohong, northwest of the seat of Laoling County, Shandong, he was educated under his uncle from his mother's side, a teacher of a traditional Confucian private school in Yanshan County. At the age of 20 (1904) he began studying in the military institute founded by Lu Jianzhang at Beijing and had since become Lu's favorite. In 1912 the troops of Lu and Feng Yuxiang, now subordinates of Yuan Shikai, were regrouped and Feng had then been Song's superior. Cai Yuanpei (; 1868–1940) was a Chinese philosopher and politician who was an influential figure in the history of Chinese modern education. He made contributions to education reform with his own education ideology. He was the president of Peking University, and founder of the Academia Sinica. Yang Jingyu
Yang Jingyu (; February 13, 1905 – February 23, 1940), born Ma Shangde (, in Queshan, Henan (today's suburb of Zhumadian City) into a local farmer's family, was a Chinese Communist, commander-in-chief and political commissar of the First Route Army of the Northeast Anti-Japanese United Army, in the guerrilla war in Manchuria against the Japanese campaign to pacify Manchukuo during the Second Sino-Japanese War. Early life Yang had both classic education in his village private school and in a modern school in Queshan when young. Yang was influenced by the New Cultural Movement after he became disappointed with the post-revolutionary warlordism. He went to college in Kaifeng, the then capital of Henan Province. Lei Feng
Lei Feng (18 December 194015 August 1962) was allegedly a soldier in the People's Liberation Army who was the object of several major Propaganda in China, propaganda campaigns in China. The most well-known of these campaigns in 1963 promoted the slogan, "Follow the examples of Comrade Lei Feng." Lei was portrayed as a model citizen, and the masses were encouraged to emulate his selflessness, modesty, and devotion to Mao Zedong. After Death of Mao Zedong, Mao's death, state media continued to promote Lei Feng as a model of earnestness and service, and his image still appears in popular forms such as on T-shirts and memorabilia. Patsy Toh (; born 1940) is a Chinese-born pianist living in London, England. She has taught at the Royal Academy of Music since 1975, and became a Fellow in 1995. Liu Yingming
Liu Yingming (; 8 October 1940 – 15 July 2016) was a Chinese mathematician. He was an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). Biography Liu graduated from Peking University in 1963, majoring in mathematics. He was assigned to Sichuan University after his graduation. His research field was topology and fuzzy mathematics, mainly in the algebra problem of unclear topology, embedded theory and nonclear convex sets. Liu was the deputy president of Sichuan University between 1989 and 2005. He was elected an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1995. Liu joined Jiusan Society in 1995. He was the vice chairman of the central committee of Jiusan Society from 1997 to 2007. Liu was diagnosed as leukemia in November 2015.
