1928 Palestine Cup
The 1928 People's Cup ( he, גביע העם, ''Gvia HaAm'') was the first season of Israeli Football Association's nationwide football cup competition. Matches began on 7 April 1928 and the final was played on 26 May 1928. Hapoel Allenby Tel Aviv won the cup, beating Maccabi Hasmonean Jerusalem 2–0 in the final. Hapoel Tel Aviv F
Hapoel ( he, הפועל, lit. ''the worker'') is an Israeli Jewish sports association established in 1926 by the Histadrut Labor Federation. History During the British Mandate of Palestine period Hapoel had a bitter rivalry with Maccabi and organized its own competitions, with the exception of football, the only sport in which all the organizations played each other. At the time, Hapoel took no part in the ''Eretz Israel Olympic Committee'', which was controlled by Maccabi, and instead sought for international ties with similar workers sports organizations of socialist parties. Therefore, Hapoel became a member of SASI in 1927 and later was a member of CSIT. RAF Gaza
RAF Gaza was an Royal Air Force airfield on the southwest coast of Mandatory Palestine, in the present day Gaza Strip. History The airfield was one of the first to be built in Palestine. It was built in 1917 for military use by the Ottoman Empire, with German assistance. RAF Gaza was used for passenger services by Imperial Airways (since 1927) and KLM (since 1933) as a stop en route to Baghdad and further to Karachi or Batavia, correspondingly. In the 1930s, an illustrated London magazine proclaimed that passengers overnighting at Gaza, hailed as "the gateway to the Holy Land", were staying where Samson had once removed the city gates. During the Second World War RAF Gaza was used by a number of RAF squadrons, including 33, 45, 127, 208, 318 and 451 Squadrons. The 1927–28 season was the first season of competitive football in the British Mandate for Palestine under the Eretz Israel Football Association, which was established during the season, on 18 July 1928, and thus it can also be considered to be the first season of competitive football in Israel. IFA Competitions 1928 People's Cup The first State Cup, then called People's Cup was held during early 1928, with Hapoel Tel Aviv and Maccabi Hasmonean Jerusalem reaching the final. Avraham Nudelman
Avraham Nudelman ( he, אברהם נודלמן) was an Israeli footballer who played for Hapoel Tel Aviv and Mandatory Palestine national football team during the British Mandate era. Playing career Nudelman was born in Menashiya neighborhood of Jaffa in 1910, and started playing football with local youth club Allenby Tel Aviv, which was initially affiliated with Maccabi Tel Aviv, but its members decided to withdraw from Maccabi, due to the professional attitude towards sports and merged in 1927 with Hapoel Tel Aviv. With Hapoel, Nudelman stayed until 1938, when he retired from football in favor of his day job as a worker in Tel Aviv Harbor. Nudelman won 3 championships and 4 cups, scoring goals in the 1928 and 1938 cup finals. The Palms Ground ( he, מגרש הדקלים) was a football ground in the Florentin neighborhood of Tel Aviv, Israel. The ground was first known as Maccabi Ground and later as Hapoel Ground, but was nicknamed Palms Ground after the palms surrounding it. History The ground was built in the early 1920s for use of Maccabi Tel Aviv, which played in the ground until its lease was over and the club built a new ground in south-east Tel Aviv.
