1917 Copa Del Rey
The Copa del Rey 1917 was the 17th staging of the Copa del Rey, the Spanish football cup competition. The competition started on 11 March 1917, and concluded on 15 May 1917, with the final, held at the Camp de la Indústria in Barcelona, in which Madrid FC lifted the trophy for the 5th time ever with a 2–1 victory over Arenas Club de Getxo, thanks to a winner in extra-time from the 19-year-old Ricardo Álvarez. Spencer (Spanish Footballer)
Enrique Gómez Muñoz (20 July 1898 – 14 March 1926), known as Spencer, was a Spanish footballer who played as a forward. Club career Born in Seville, Andalusia, Spencer spent the vast majority of his career at hometown club Sevilla FC, whom he joined in 1913 at the age of 15. In the 1914–15 season he changed his football nickname, which until then was Enrique, to Spencer, to mislead his father, who wanted him to stop playing football to concentrate on studies. Spencer also represented Real Oviedo, after being relocated to the city to perform his military service. International career On 16 December 1923, in only the 12th fixture of their existence, Spencer received his only cap for the Spanish national team, a 3–0 friendly win over neighbours Portugal. René Petit
Renato Petit de Ory, better known by its French name, René Petit (8 October 1899 – 14 October 1989) was a Franco-Spanish engineer, known for being a footballer in his youth. He was one of the most popular players in Spanish football in the 1910s, 1920s and 1930s, playing for Real Madrid and Real Unión, and becoming a member of the French national team. José María Sansinenea
José María Ygnacio Sansinenea Goñi (1 August 1896 - 11 August 1924), simply known as Sansinenea, was a Spanish footballer who played as a forward. Club career Born in San Sebastián, Sansinenea found his way into the home of a very prominent club in the capital, Madrid FC, with whom he played for 5 seasons (1916–1921). At the club he formed a great attacking partnership with Sotero Aranguren and René Petit, and the highlight of his career came in the 1917 Copa del Rey, being one of the most outstanding players in the tournament with a total of four goals, including the winner in the semi-finals against España FC, although he failed to score in the final against Arenas de Getxo as Madrid won 2–1. Sotero Aranguren
Sotero Aranguren Labairu (7 May 1894 – 26 February 1922), was an Argentine footballer born in Buenos Aires who spend his youth in Basque Country. He was a midfielder and played most of his career for Real Madrid CF. He and his brother Eulogio were team-mates at Real Madrid. Biography He played for Real Madrid for seven years, between 1911 and 1918, scoring 4 goals in 60 matches. He is considered "the first white symbol" by the Real Madrid official website. His premature death at the age of 28 led the club to build a statue representing Sotero and one of his team-mates, Machimbarrena (who also died young) at the entrance of the first team's locker room. The statue, added in 1925, now stands at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, and is seen as a totem of inspiration for Real Madrid's coming generations of footballers. Santiago Bernabéu de Yeste (; 8 June 1895 – 2 June 1978) was a Spanish footballer who played for Real Madrid as a forward. He is widely regarded one of the most important figures in the history of Real Madrid, having served as its president for 35 years, from 11 September 1943 until his death in 1978. Under Bernabéu's leadership, Real Madrid became a dominant team both on national and international level, with its influence stretching beyond the football pitch. Ricardo Álvarez Lobo (Madrid, 7 July 1897 - Madrid, 21 February 1955) was a Spanish footballer who usually played as a left winger. The highlight of his career was scoring the winning goal of the 1917 Copa del Rey Final for Madrid FC in extra-time. Club career Born in Madrid, he began his career at his hometown club Racing de Madrid in 1914, aged 17, where he played as a midfielder. In sport, a bye is the preferential status of a player or team that is automatically advanced to the next round of a tournament, without having to play an opponent in an early round. In knockout (elimination) tournaments they can be granted either to reward the highest ranked participant(s) or assigned randomly, to make a working bracket if the number of participants is not a power of two (e.g. 16 or 32). In round-robin tournaments, usually one competitor gets a bye in each round when there are an odd number of competitors, as it is impossible for all competitors to play in the same round. However, over the whole tournament, each plays the same number of games as well as sitting out for the same number of rounds. FC Espanya De Barcelona
FC Espanya de Barcelona, was a Spanish Catalan football club based in Barcelona. They enjoyed a golden age during the 1910s and were Catalan champions three times during the decade. They were also Copa del Rey runners-up in 1914. By 1923 the club had changed its name to Gràcia FC and in 1932 it merged with CE Europa. Founded by three students, Graells, Rossendo and Just, in September 1905, their first game was against an FC Barcelona second team. They were one of several football clubs to emerge with a reference to ''Spain'' in their title. The Catalan football championship ''(Campionat de Catalunya)'' was a football competition in Catalonia and the first football league in Spain before La Liga was established in 1929. Sporting De Gijón
Real Sporting de Gijón, S.A.D. (), commonly known as Real Sporting, Sporting Gijón, or simply Sporting (although in an international context this can lead to confusion with Sporting Clube de Portugal) is a Spanish football club from Gijón, Principality of Asturias.
