1892–93 Scottish Districts Season
The 1892–93 Scottish Districts season is a record of all the rugby union matches for Scotland's district teams. History North of Scotland District listed this season's district matches in September 1892. Northern Counties Football Union. A meeting of captains and secretaries of clubs this Union was held on Friday in the office of the hon. secretary, and fixed the principal Union matches under, as also those the various club fixtures. The first two matches will be under the auspices of the Union, to enable the committee to select the best team against Galashiels on 8 October. The annual match Ancients v. The 1891–92 Scottish Districts season is a record of all the rugby union matches for Scotland's district teams. History In September, new scoring was introduced throughout Scotland, England, Ireland and Wales. The ''Scottish Referee'' newspaper was disdainful of the changes; stating that although they were a step in the right direction, the changes did not go far enough. It concluded: Indeed, the whole system of scoring as adopted is a survival of the time - the stupid time - when one goal was considered of greater value than any number of tries. Scottish Rugby Union
The Scottish Rugby Union (SRU; gd, Aonadh Rugbaidh na h-Alba) is the governing body of rugby union in Scotland. Styled as Scottish Rugby, it is the second oldest Rugby Union, having been founded in 1873. Northumberland Rugby Football Union
The Northumberland Rugby Union is the governing body for rugby union in the historic county of Northumberland, England and one of the constituent bodies of the national Rugby Football Union having been formed in 1880. Scottish Exiles (rugby Union)
Scottish Exiles is a rugby union representative team featuring players selected from the Scottish diaspora. Its players were mainly based in England and as result the team was originally known as the Anglo-Scots. The team competed in the Scottish Inter-District Championship. Midlands District was a select provincial amateur rugby union team that drew its players mainly from central east Scotland, roughly corresponding from around Stirlingshire, east to Fife and northwards to Perthshire and Angus, Scotland, Angus. Hamilton Crescent
Hamilton Crescent is a cricket ground in the Partick area of Glasgow, Scotland, which is the home of the West of Scotland Cricket Club. Hamilton Crescent hosted the first international football match, between Scotland and England, played on 30 November 1872, which ended in a goalless draw, and was watched by a crowd of 4,000. A plaque on the wall of the clubhouse was placed to commemorate the match in 2002 by Mr John C McGinn, President of the Scottish Football Association. South Of Scotland District (rugby Union)
The South of Scotland District is a Scottish amateur rugby union team which plays in the amateur Scottish Inter-District Championship. It draws its players from the South of Scotland, mainly the Scottish Borders where there has always been a proud tradition of rugby union. Historically the South team played matches against touring teams visiting Scotland from abroad, and also competed in the Scottish Inter-District Championship. After rugby union became a professional sport in 1995, the team was replaced in 1996 by the new Border Reivers team based in the same geographical area as the South and who wore the same colours as the old team. When the professional Border Reivers provincial side folded in 1998, the South amateur district was resurrected and renamed Scottish Borders. The 1893–94 Scottish Districts season is a record of all the rugby union matches for Scotland's district teams. History Glasgow District beat Edinburgh District in the Inter-City match. The ''Glasgow Herald'' makes the mistake of assuming every Inter-City fixture was an annual fixture in its report; in concluding that the Inter-City Glasgow - Edinburgh match started in 1858. The East v West match was scheduled for February 1894. However it was played, as normal, at the end of January. A joint Glasgow-Edinburgh side was selected for the first time. The team was to play a Rest Of Scotland side. It was noted that the weather was so bad for the South v Cumberland match that few spectators turned up; and the pitch was almost unplayable.
