Scottish Exiles (rugby Union)
Scottish Exiles is a rugby union representative team featuring players selected from the Scottish diaspora. Its players were mainly based in England and as result the team was originally known as the Anglo-Scots. The team competed in the Scottish Inter-District Championship. Formation Formed as the Anglo-Scots it was treated by the Scottish Rugby Union as a distinct non-native District side. Scottish Rugby Union
The Scottish Rugby Union (SRU; gd, Aonadh Rugbaidh na h-Alba) is the governing body of rugby union in Scotland. Styled as Scottish Rugby, it is the second oldest Rugby Union, having been founded in 1873. The SRU oversees the national league system, known as the Scottish League Championship, and the Scottish National teams. The 2022–2023 Amateur Scottish Inter-District Championship is a rugby union competition for Scotland's amateur district teams. This is the fourth season of the re-instated Amateur Scottish Inter-District Championship in the professional era, and the first championship since the last professional inter-district championship of 2002–03 season; and the first amateur championship since the last Amateur Scottish Inter-District Championship was played over 20 years previously in the 2001–02 season. The 2000–2001 Amateur Scottish Inter-District Championship was a rugby union competition for Scotland's amateur district teams. This was the second season of the re-instated amateur Scottish Inter-District Championship. This was played in the professional era, but was intended as a stepping stone for amateurs to the professional game in Scotland. The 1999–2000 Amateur Scottish Inter-District Championship was a rugby union competition for Scotland's amateur district teams. The professional game in Scotland saw the merging of the 4 districts into 2 in 1998; now only Glasgow Caledonians and Edinburgh Reivers were involved in the professional Scottish Inter-District Championship as a renamed Tri-Series. The Glasgow and Edinburgh sides were also involved in the Welsh-Scottish League. "When we changed from four to two districts, the top of the tree was lopped off," Jim Telfer said. The SRU decided to re-instate the Inter-District Championship at amateur level with the traditional amateur districts of Glasgow District, Edinburgh District, South and North and Midlands.
