Frank Dole
Frank Fessenden Dole (December 25, 1859 – May 22, 1939) was an American college football coach, dog breeder, and journalist. He was the first head football coach at the University of Pennsylvania, serving from 1885 to 1887, and leading the Penn Quakers to a record of 23–20–1 in three seasons. Dole was born on December 25, 1859, in Portland, Maine. As a dog breeder, he specialized in Bull Terriers. Dole joined the ''New York Herald Tribune'' in 1912 as a writer, and remained on the newspaper's staff until 1938, when he retired as kennel editor. The Harvard–Penn football rivalry is an American college football rivalry between the Harvard Crimson and Penn Quakers. The first game was played in 1881. In the first 18 games played in this 88 game series, Harvard won 13 and Penn won 5. In 1958 Penn pulled even with 14 games won by each school. There was 1 tie (1940). From 1959 through 1981 Harvard dominated the series winning 20 games to Penn's winning 2 games (1963, 1972). There was 1 tie (1965).
