Christian IV Of Denmark
Christian IV (12 April 1577 – 28 February 1648) was King of Denmark and Norway and Duke of Holstein and Schleswig from 1588 until his death in 1648. His reign of 59 years, 330 days is the longest of Danish monarchs and Scandinavian monarchies. A member of the House of Oldenburg, Christian began his personal rule of Denmark in 1596 at the age of 19. He is remembered as one of the most popular, ambitious, and proactive Danish kings, having initiated many reforms and projects. Christian IV obtained for his kingdom a level of stability and wealth that was virtually unmatched elsewhere in Europe. He engaged Denmark in numerous wars, most notably the Thirty Years' War (1618–1648), which devastated much of Germany, undermined the Danish economy, and cost Denmark some of its conquered territories. Københavns Skipperforening
Københavns Skipperforening (), formerly Københavns Skipperlav (Copenhagen Skippers' Guild), is an organisation for skippers in Copenhagen, Denmark. Its former headquarters at the corner of Bremerholm and Holmens Kanal, a brick building from 1796, was listed on the Danish registry of protected buildings and places by the Danish Heritage Agency on 23 December 1918 and was sold to Danske Bank in 1930. The association is now based at Australiensgade in Østerbro. History The Copenhagen Skippers' Guild was founded on 22 December 1634. The guild was to be consulted on all matters related to shipfaring to and from Copenhagen and also acted as a maritime court in connection with disputes. The guild acquired a building at Lille Kongensgade 33 in 1665. It was a Renaissance-style building from 1605. His father was a weaver of modest means; the name ''Kingo'' is a shortening of the Scottish name "Kinghorn". In his youth, Kingo wrote a series of poems picturing humorous scenes in village life and a pastoral love poem, ''Chrysillis''. He studied theology at the University of Copenhagen, graduating in 1654, and for some time acted as private tutor. In 1661 he was appointed vicar to the pastor at Kirke Helsinge, and in 1668 he was ordained a minister at his native town, where his poetic activity began. At first he essayed patriotic poems, but later devoted himself almost entirely to writing hymns, and in 1674 the first part of his ''Aandelige Siunge-Koor'' ("Spiritual Song Choir") appeared; followed in 1681 by a second part. Jens Hermansson Juel
Jens Hermansson Juel or Jens Juel (born 8 January 1580 at Refstrup,Denmark died 26 March 1634 at Bøvling, Denmark) was a Danish nobleman who served as Governor-general of Norway from 1618 to 1629. Early years Juel attended the Sorø Academy from 1590 to 1596, and then had a seven-year educational trip with studies abroad, ending in 1603 when he became employed at the Danish chancery. He advanced quickly, being given major tasks: Danish Treasury (responsible for accounting, payment and collection of customs duties and taxes, as well as management of state property, including forests, roads and buildings) beginning in 1609, member of the Danish national council from 1616 and assignment to serve on several diplomatic missions.
