100 Marathon Club
The 100 Marathon Club or British 100 Marathon Club is a club for marathon and ultra marathon runners. It has a membership that is primarily based in the UK, but with additional members from outside Britain (e.g. France, Italy, Greece, etc.). The 100 Marathon Club is affiliated to UK Athletics. History The 100 Marathon Club was formed sometime in the late 1980s, early 1990s, by a group of U.K. Runners. At the time, and in the words of Roger Biggs – one of the former and longest served Chairpersons of the 100 Marathon Club and still active with running, "...We kept bumping into each other at Marathons around the Country and we were telling each other what our totals were 40/50/60 Marathons. Marathon
The marathon is a long-distance foot race with a distance of , usually run as a road race, but the distance can be covered on trail routes. The marathon can be completed by running or with a run/walk strategy. There are also wheelchair divisions. More than 800 marathons are held throughout the world each year, with the vast majority of competitors being recreational athletes, as larger marathons can have tens of thousands of participants. An ultramarathon, also called ultra distance or ultra running, is any footrace longer than the traditional marathon length of .
