Low-floor Tram
A low-floor tram is a tram that has no stairsteps between one or more entrances and part or all of the passenger cabin. The low-floor design improves the accessibility of the tram for the public, and also may provide larger windows and more airspace. An accessible platform-level floor in a tram can be achieved either by using a high-floor vehicle serving high-platform tram stops, or with a true low-floor vehicle interfacing with curb level stops. Currently both types are in use, depending on the station platform infrastructure in existing rail systems. Some systems may make use of former railway alignments where use of existing high platforms is desirable, while others, particularly new systems, may not have the space to site high-level stops in urban centres. Schöneiche is a municipality in the Oder-Spree District of Brandenburg, Germany. Å koda 28 T (also known as Å koda ForCity Classic) is a five-carbody section low-floor bi-directional tram, developed by Å koda Transportation for the Konya Tram system in the Turkish city of Konya. The low-floor area of the fully air-conditioned tram constitutes the entire vehicle floor. Konya ordered 60 units. It is based on the Å koda 26 T for Miskolc. The Konya tram is a tram system located in Konya city of Turkey. Konya's first tram line was opened on April 15, 1992. The system is 41 km long with two lines and has 41 stations. The tram is among the most heavily used in Turkey. History In 1987, the Konya Metropolitan Municipality announced plans for a new light rail network in order to provide safe, cheap and fast transportation to citizens of the city. Artic, styled as ARTIC or ForCity Smart, is an articulated tram, articulated low-floor tram, low-floor tram model designed and manufactured by Škoda Transtech, Škoda Transtech Oy in Finland. Trams of the design are in operation in Finland, Germany and Czechia, with further large orders in these countries. The design was subsequently rebranded under the Škoda ForCity brand. Helsinki In December 2010 the design was included in the winning tender to deliver 40 new trams to the Helsinki City Transport (HKL), the municipal tram operator of Helsinki Regional Transport Authority (HSL), with an option for 90 units more.
