ŠK Bosna
ŠK Bosna, or Šahovski klub Bosna is a chess club from Sarajevo Canton, Bosnia and Herzegovina. The club is part of the University Sport Society USD Bosna (). This club has achieved considerable success at competitions on the international stage. Every May the club organizes an international chess tournament. In 2010 this was the 40th time it did so. History The club was founded in 1960, under the name ŠK Iskra. After joining USD Bosna, the club changed its name to ŠK Bosna on July 15, 1976. Chess is a board game for two players. It is an abstract strategy game that involves Perfect information, no hidden information and no elements of game of chance, chance. Sarajevo Canton
The Sarajevo Canton, officially the Canton of Sarajevo (; ; ), is one of the ten cantons of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Its cantonal seat is the city of Sarajevo, also the capital city of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Canton represents the metro area of Sarajevo. Univerzitetsko sportsko društvo Bosna, (), commonly abbreviated as USD Bosna, is a multi-sport club based in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. The European Chess Club Cup is an annual chess tournament for club teams from Europe. It is organised by the European Chess Union. The competition is held with the Swiss system over seven rounds. Predrag Nikolić
Predrag Nikolić (born 11 September 1960 in Bosanski Šamac) is a Bosnian chess grandmaster. Biography He first competed for the Yugoslav Championship in 1979, taking a share of second place. The following year and again in 1984, he went one step further and became the Yugoslav national champion. He was awarded the International Master and Grandmaster titles in 1980 and 1983 respectively. The GM title was earned from his 1982 performances in Sarajevo (third) and Sochi (second after Mikhail Tal). He was a winner at Sarajevo in 1983, at Novi Sad in 1984 and at Reykjavík two years later. 1986 was also the year that he shared second place behind Nigel Short at Wijk aan Zee. Nebojša Nikolić (born 23 March 1968) is a Bosnian chess International Master (IM) (1991) and Chess Olympiad team silver medalist (1994). Biography In 1985, in Heraklion Nebojša Nikolić, with the Yugoslavian Youth Team, participated in Chess Balkaniad and won silver medals in both the team and individual competitions. Ivan Sokolov (chess Player)
Ivan Sokolov (; born 13 June 1968) is a Dutch-Bosnian chess player and writer. He was awarded the title of Grandmaster (GM) by FIDE in 1987. Sokolov won the 1988 Yugoslav Championship and in 1995 and 1998 the Dutch Championship. Before earning the GM title, he became a FIDE Master in 1985 and an International Master in 1986. In 1987 and 1993, he won the Vidmar Memorial. In 2000, he won the 1st European Rapid Chess Championship in Neum edging out on tiebreak Alexey Dreev and Zurab Azmaiparashvili. Following his playing career, Sokolov has become a successful chess trainer. Bojan Kurajica
Bojan Kurajica (born 15 November 1947) is a Croatian-Bosnian chess grandmaster (GM). Biography Kurajica grew up in Split. He earned the International Master (IM) title in 1965 by winning the World Junior Championship. He moved to Zagreb in 1966 to study Italian and English at the Faculty of Philosophy, graduating in 1972. Kurajica was awarded the GM title in 1974. He played chess in Zagreb until 1979, when he relocated to Sarajevo in order to play for ŠK Bosna. He played for Yugoslavia in Chess Olympiads at Valletta 1980 (won team bronze medal) and Thessaloniki 1984. One of his notable tournament successes was joint 3rd/4th place (together with Mikhail Tal whom he beat in their individual game) at the 1976 Wijk aan Zee ( Fridrik Olafsson and Ljubomir Ljubojević won).
