Ö1 International
Radio Austria 1 International (Ö1 International) is the official international broadcasting station of Austria. Austrian Radio 1 (Ö1) is its most successful cultural radio network. It replaced Radio Österreich International which was discontinued for financial reasons at the end of 2003. The station's transmitters were in Moosbrunn, on the outskirts of Vienna. Programming The entire programme offering, with just a few changes, is broadcast worldwide as Ö1 International. This mix of information, culture, music, literature, education, science and religion reaches Austrians living abroad as well as a global audience with an interest in Austria. There are two types of radio network currently in use around the world: the one-to-many (simplex communication) broadcast network commonly used for public information and mass-media entertainment, and the two-way radio ( duplex communication) type used more commonly for public safety and public services such as police, fire, taxicabs, and delivery services. Radio Österreich International (RÖI) (Austrian Radio International) was an international radio station broadcast by ORF (broadcaster), ORF. RÖI was launched in 1955 by order of the Federal Chancellery, to increase awareness of Austria in other countries. The radio station was broadcast worldwide on various shortwave frequencies. At the end of the 1990s, it was also broadcast on Astra Digital Radio. The station's headquarters and transmitters were in Moosbrunn, on the outskirts of Vienna. International Broadcasting
International broadcasting, in a limited extent, began during World War I, when German and British stations broadcast press communiqués using Morse code. With the severing of Germany's undersea cables, the wireless telegraph station in Nauen was the country's sole means of long-distance communication. The US Navy Radio Service radio station in New Brunswick, Canada, transmitted the 'Fourteen Points' by wireless to Nauen in 1917. In turn, Nauen station broadcast the news of the abdication of Kaiser Wilhelm II on November 10, 1918.
