The テ知nium Prize for Best Novel of the Year is a literary prize awarded by the テ知nium Cultural association for a Catalan-language novel. It has a 竄ャ20,000 award for the author and a 竄ャ5,000 award for the publisher of the work. It is the best-funded prize for a published Catalan-language novel. History The prize was created in 2017 with a 竄ャ20,000 direct donation for the author and a marketing campaign valued at 竄ャ5,000, with the intention of annually recognizing the best Catalan-language novel and make it known to the public. It is similar to the Prix Goncourt for French literature. In the first edition, a selection committee composed of the editor of the ''Nテコvol'' online newspaper, Bernat Puigtobella, bookseller Olga Federico, and librarian Carme Fenoll nominated 16 novels published in 2017. テ知nium Cultural () is a Catalan association based in Barcelona, Catalonia. It was originally created in the 1960s to promote the Catalan language and spread Catalan culture. Over the years it has increased its involvement in broader political issues; in 2012 it committed itself to Catalan independence, specifically demanding the right of self-determination for Catalonia. Leaders of the abortive Catalan independence referendum such as Jordi Cuixart were simultaneously holding leadership positions at テ知nium. Currently テ知nium claims more than 190,000 members organised in 52 regional offices besides the headquarters in Barcelona. History テ知nium Cultural was created on 11 July 1961 in the context of Francoist Spain when the institutional use of Catalan was forbidden. Raテシl Garrigasait i Colomテゥs ( Solsona, 1979) is a Catalan translator from Greek and German to Catalan language. His first book was an essay on classical erudition. His first novel, ''Els estranys'', won the 2017 Catalan booksellers' Prize and the 2017 テ知nium Prize. Marta Orriols
Marta Orriols (Sabadell, 1975) is a Catalan writer from Spain. She studied cinematographic scriptwriting at the Bande テ Part film school in Barcelona and creative writing at the Ateneu Barcelonティs. She received the 2018 テ知nium Prize for best Catalan-language novel by テ知nium Cultural, the No Llegiu Prize, and the Illa dels Llibres Prize for Best Novel of 2018. Irene Solテ Sテ。ez (born 17 August 1990) is a Catalan writer and an artist. She has exhibited her work at the CCCB in Barcelona and the Whitechapel Gallery in London. Her first book of poems, ''Bティstia'' won the 2012 Amadeu Oller Prize and her novel ''Els dics'', the 2017 Documenta Prize. She has a degree in fine arts from the University of Barcelona and a master's in literature, film and visual culture from the University of Sussex. Edicions de 1984 is an independent publishing house in Catalonia specialized in up-market literature which was founded in 1984 by Josep Cots as an homage to George Orwell. Josep Cots, the current director and editor-in-chief, and his team have been building up the company窶冱 catalogue which includes some of the most important authors of all times. The catalogue, which has around 450 active titles, includes translations of all genres (novel, poetry, theatre and essay) and works by catalan authors. Boulder (novel)
''Boulder'' is a 2020 novel by Catalan author Eva Baltasar. In 2023, the English translation by Julia Sanches was shortlisted for the International Booker Prize. Plot Boulder, the nickname given to a woman by another woman called Samsa while the former worked as a cook on a merchant ship. The novel follows the eponymous main character as the couple moves to Reykjavテュk, Samsa has a child, and Boulder navigates how the resulting changes in their relationship clash with her desire for freedom. Reception Critical reception The novel was well received by critics. Greg Mania, in a review for The New York Times Book Review praised its depiction of intimacy, commenting "the language of desire never stops vibrating off the page". Eva Baltasar (born August 26, 1978) is a Spanish poet and writer. She has a bachelor's degree in Pedagogy from the University of Barcelona. She has published ten books of poetry, which have earned numerous awards including the 2008 Miquel de Palol, the 2010 Benet Ribas, and the 2015 Gabriel Ferrater. Permafrost was her first novel. Jordi Cussテ ( Berga, 18 January 1961 窶 11 July 2021) was a Spanish Catalan-language writer. Biography In the late 1970s he co-founded the Anテイnim Theatre foundation in his hometown, Berga, collaborating as a playwright and actor. His first novel ''Cavalls salvatges'' (2000) reflects his youth addiction to drugs.
