èViva (in English: ''It is alive'') was an Italian left-wing political party. History èViva was founded by Francesco Laforgia (member of Article One) and Luca Pastorino (member of Possible) on 13 April 2019. The name of the movement has been chosen via an online-poll. The Left ( it, La Sinistra) was a left-wing coalition of political parties in Italy which took part in the 2019 European Parliament election. Its main members were Italian Left and the Communist Refoundation Party. History The alliance is the direct heir of The Other Europe (AET), a left-wing coalition representing the anti-austerity movement which took part to the 2014 European election, obtaining 4.0% of the vote and electing three MEPs. Italian Left ( it, Sinistra Italiana, SI) is a left-wing political party in Italy. SI was launched in November 2015 as a parliamentary group in the Chamber of Deputies (full name: Italian Left – Left Ecology Freedom), including Left Ecology Freedom (SEL), dissidents from the Democratic Party like Future to the Left, and splinters from the Five Star Movement. At its launch, SI included 32 deputies, who were soon followed by 8 senators (who formed a sub-group within the Mixed Group of the Senate in February 2016), and 2 MEPs. Francesco Laforgia (born 1 February 1978) is an Italian academic and politician. Biography Laforgia graduated in Economics and Social Sciences at the Bocconi University in 2002, specializing in innovation economics. He spent several periods of study and work abroad, where he perfected his knowledge of English and Spanish. After graduating he continued to work in University following several research projects, published by international journals. He received his PhD in Economics of Production and Development at the University of Insubria in Varese and taught Economics in several universities in Milan, Varese, Brescia and Castellanza. 2023 Democratic Party (Italy) Leadership Election
The 2023 Democratic Party leadership election was a primary election that was held in Italy in February 2023 to elect the National Assembly and secretary of the Democratic Party (PD). It consisted of a closed primary election among party members held from 9 to 19 February, and an open primary election held on 26 February. Four candidates ran in the closed primary election held in circle conventions: Stefano Bonaccini, Gianni Cuperlo, Paola De Micheli, and Elly Schlein. Bonaccini and Schlein advanced to the open primary election, where Schlein won with over 53% of the vote, becoming the first woman and the youngest person to ever serve as leader of the PD, as well as the first openly LGBT leader of a major Italian political party. Stefano Bonaccini (born 1 January 1967) is an Italian politician and member of the Democratic Party (PD). He has been serving as the president of Emilia-Romagna since 24 November 2014. He is the incumbent president of Apulia Region since June 2015, and he previously served as mayor of Bari from 2004 to 2014. Emiliano has often been considered a populist and regionalist politician.
