Renaming to Keralam
There have been long-standing demands for changing the name to Keralam, the Malayalam name of the state. Officially, the state's name in Malayalam is 'Keralam' (കേരളം), while its English name is 'Kerala'. The Kerala Legislative Assembly passed a unanimous resolution in June 2024 to change the state's name from 'Kerala' to 'Keralam', following an earlier unanimous resolution in August 2023. Chief MinisterPinarayi Vijayan had moved both resolutions, which sought to amend the state's name under Article 3 of the Constitution to reflect its Malayali identity.
