Mullin walked off the field with assistance while wearing an oxygen mask and was later hospitalized with broken ribs and a punctured lung, an injury which would cause him to miss the start of the season. Wrexham would go on to win the game 3–1. Mullin's injury caused him to stay in the United States after the team returned to the United Kingdom to allow time for his lung to heal.
