Zweibrücken Hauptbahnhof
Zweibrücken Hauptbahnhof is a through station with two platforms and three platform tracks in the city of Zweibrücken in the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate. It is located not far from the city centre, on the single-track, non-electrified, Queich Valley Railway, over which Regionalbahn trains operate between Saarbrücken Hauptbahnhof and Pirmasens Hauptbahnhof. It also connects with Landau, although this requires a change of trains at Pirmasens Nord. History On 7 May 1857, the Blies Valley Railway (''Bliestalbahn'') was opened to neighbouring Homburg, now in the Saarland. The Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Neckar (VRN) is a List of German transport associations, transport association covering parts of the States of Germany, German states of Baden-Württemberg, Rhineland-Palatinate and Hesse in south-west Germany. Founded in 1989, it initially served the Rhein Neckar Area, but has since grown beyond its borders to cover an oblong area of 10,000 km2 with a population of 3 million, including Mannheim and Ludwigshafen, Heidelberg, Kaiserslautern, the entire Palatinate Forest and the northernmost parts of Baden-Württemberg. Zweibrücken Airport , or ''Flughafen Zweibrücken'' in German, is a regional airport and former minor international airport in Zweibrücken, Germany. It was the smaller of the two passenger airports in the state of Rhineland-Palatinate, the other being Frankfurt-Hahn Airport. Zweibrücken currently only features general aviation, since scheduled air services ceased in November 2014 due to the airport's financial difficulties. is an autobahn in southern Germany that runs 497 km (309 mi) from the Luxembourg A13 motorway at Schengen via Neunkirchen, Pirmasens, Karlsruhe, Pforzheim, Stuttgart, Ulm, Augsburg and Munich to the Austrian West Autobahn near Salzburg. The A8 is a significant east–west transit route. Its construction began in March 1934 during Nazi rule as a '' Reichsautobahn'', the section between Karlsruhe and Salzburg having been completed by the time road works were discontinued in World War II. Although most parts have been modernized and extended since, significant sections remain in their original configuration from the 1930s - 2+2 lanes, no emergency lanes, steep hills and tight curves.
