Zarichne, Dnipropetrovsk Oblast
Zarichne (), formerly known as Hvardiiske (), is a rural settlement in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, Ukraine. It is part of Samar Raion. Zarichne is located on the left bank of the Samara River, about upstream from Cherkaske. It belongs to Cherkaske settlement hromada, one of the hromadas of Ukraine. Population: According to the 2001 census, population was 5,199. Zarichne is better known for housing the 25th Airborne Brigade (Ukraine) (since summer of 2002) and originally was established in 1957 as a military base for the 42nd Guards Tank Division. The town was named for the Guards designation of the unit. Until 26 January 2024, Hvardiiske was designated urban-type settlement. On this day, a new law entered into force which abolished this status, and Hvardiiske became a rural settlement. On 19 September 2024, the Verkhovna Rada voted to rename Hvardiiske to Zarichne. Samara (Dnieper)
The Samara () is a river in Ukraine, a left tributary of the Dnieper. The city of Dnipro is located near the confluence of the Dnieper and the Samara. The river has a length of 320 km and a drainage basin of 22,600 km². From its source, near the village of Mar'ivka in the suburbs of Kramatorsk in Donetsk Oblast, the river flows through the oblasts of Kharkiv (briefly) and Dnipropetrovsk (for most of its length). As it approaches the Dnieper, it goes through Samara Bay (formerly Lenin Lake), an artificial lake 10km long and 3km wide, formed as a result of the hydroelectric dam on the Dnieper. The Samara is mostly used for irrigation and fish farming. The water quantities are variable, mainly because the river is fed by snowmelt from the spring thaw. The width of the river varies between 40 and 60 meters, with 300 m being the maximum. Urban-type Settlement
Urban-type settlement, abbreviated: ; , abbreviated: ; ; ; ; . is an official designation for lesser urbanized settlements, used in several Central and Eastern Europe, Central and Eastern European countries. The term was primarily used in the Soviet Union and later also for a short time in People's Republic of Bulgaria, socialist Bulgaria and Polish People's Republic, socialist Poland. It remains in use today in nine of the post-Soviet states. The designation was used in all 15 member republics of the Soviet Union from 1922. It was introduced later in Poland (1954) and Bulgaria (1964). All the urban-type settlements in Poland were transformed into other types of settlement (town or village) in 1972. Guards Designation
Guards units () were elite units and formations in the Soviet Armed Forces that continue to exist in the Russian Armed Forces and other post-Soviet states. These units were awarded Guards status after distinguishing themselves in wartime service, and are considered to have elite status. The Guards designation originated during World War II, its name coming both from the Russian Imperial Guard, and the old Bolshevik Red Guards. The 42nd Guards Priluki Order of Lenin Red Banner Order of Bogdan Khmelnitsky Tank Division (Military Unit Number 29410) was an armoured division of the Soviet Ground Forces, active from 1957 to 1990. The 25th Separate Airborne Brigade "Sicheslav" (; 25 ОПДБр, А1126) is an airborne formation of the Ukrainian Air Assault Forces. In Ukraine, a hromada () is the main type of municipality and the third level Administrative divisions of Ukraine, local self-government in Ukraine. The current hromadas were established by the Cabinet of ministers of Ukraine, Government of Ukraine on 12 June 2020. A municipality is designated ''urban hromada'' if its administration is located in a city; ''settlement hromada'' if it is located in a settlement (''selyshche''), and ''rural hromada'' if it is located in a village (Village#Ukraine, ''selo'') or a ''selyshche''. Cherkaske () is a rural settlement in Samar Raion, Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, eastern Ukraine. It hosts the administration of Cherkaske settlement hromada, one of the hromadas of Ukraine.
