Yannis, Yiannis, or Giannis (Γιάννης) is a common Greek given name, a variant of ''John'' (Hebrew) meaning "God is gracious." Ioannis Banias
Ioannis (Yannis) Banias ( el, Γιάννης Μπανιάς) (27 September 1939 – 29 March 2012) was a Greek politician, and former member of the Hellenic Parliament for the Coalition of Radical Left (2007–2009). Banias was born in Melissourgoi, Arta. He was a member of the Communist Party of Greece from the beginning of 1960s until its split in 1968 when he continued his activities in the Communist Party of Greece (Interior). He was elected president of the latter in 1982. He later participated in the formation of the Renewing Communist Ecological Left and was elected as the president of that group. He died in Athens on 28 March 2012, after a long battle with cancer. Giannis Fysekis ( el, Γιάννης Φυσέκης; born 10 October 1985) is a Greek professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for Ginásio Clube Alcobaça. Career Fysekis has been playing in the lower divisions of Greek football with P.A.O.N.E. since June 2010. From January through June 2010, he played for Greek second division side Panserraikos F.C. Yiannis Eitziridis
Iovan Tsaous ( el, Γιοβάν Τσαούς, from the Turkish word ''çavuş'', meaning "sergeant") (1893–1942), was a Greek musician and composer of rebetiko songs from Pontus. His real name was Yiannis Eitziridis or Etseiridis (Γιάννης Εϊτζιρίδης or Ετσειρίδης). Biography Tsaous was born in 1893 in Kastamonu on Turkey's Black Sea coast. As a citizen of the Ottoman Empire, he completed his military service in the Ottoman army, attaining the rank of sergeant. After the Greco-Turkish War (1919–1922), he came to Greece as a refugee and settled in Piraeus. He worked initially as a tailor for some years, before opening an ouzeri. He and his wife died in 1942 of food poisoning during the famine caused by the Nazi-Fascist occupation during WWII. Much of the information on his life comes from descendants of his sister-in-law. Giannis Dragasakis Yannis Dragasakis (; born 1 January 1947) is a Greek politician and the former Deputy Prime Minister of Greece, serving twice from 27 January to 28 August 2015 and 23 September 2015 to 8 July 2019.
