Yekta Uzunoğlu
Yekta Uzunoğlu (born 10 May 1953 in Silvan, Diyarbakır) is a doctor, writer, human rights fighter, translator and entrepreneur. Biography He was born in 1953 in Silvan, Diyarbakır. In 1971 he went to France for higher education. After his family's financial assistance was refused by the Military junta, junta of 1971 in Turkey (see: 1971 Turkish military memorandum), he went to Prague to study medicine. Between 1972 and 1979, he obtained a scholarship from Kurdish Prince Kamuran Ali Bedirhan to complete his medical education at Charles University in Prague. In 1979 he graduated from Charles University and became a medical doctor. In 1976, he co-founded an illegal publishing house during the communist Czechoslovakia era with Prof. Dr. Pavel Martasek and Vladimir Korensky. Until 1979 they published many books on Kurds, a map of Kurdistan and Joyce Blau's works, who was a professor at the Sorbonne University in Paris. Pavel Dostál
Pavel Dostál (25 February 1943 – 24 July 2005) was the Minister of Culture from 1998 to 2005. Born in Olomouc, North Moravia in 1943, Dostál took an early interest in theatre. In 1966, he put aside his technician trade in order to become the artistic director of the Experimental Theatre in Olomouc. For the next few years, he was active as a theatre producer, and a writer of plays, TV scripts, and magazine columns. During this time, Dostál was member of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia. Disillusionment struck him in August 1968, when the Soviet Army invaded Czechoslovakia. Dostál took part in the underground radio broadcasts at Czechoslovak Radio, which was central to local resistance to the Communist occupation. Velvet Revolution
The Velvet Revolution () or Gentle Revolution () was a non-violent transition of power in what was then Czechoslovakia, occurring from 17 November to 28 November 1989. Popular demonstrations against the one-party government of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia included students and older dissidents. The result was the end of Czechoslovak Socialist Republic, 41 years of one-party rule in Czechoslovakia, and the subsequent dismantling of the command economy and conversion to a parliamentary republic. On 17 November 1989 (International Students' Day), riot police suppressed a Student activism, student demonstration in Prague.
