Wexford (Dáil Constituency)
Wexford is a parliamentary constituency represented in Dáil Éireann, the lower house of the Irish parliament or Oireachtas. The constituency elects four deputies ( Teachtaí Dála, commonly known as TDs) on the electoral system of proportional representation by means of the single transferable vote (PR-STV). Boundaries The constituency was created by the Government of Ireland Act 1920 and first used at the 1921 elections electing 4 deputies. Before 2024, it spanned the entire area of County Wexford, taking in Wexford, Enniscorthy, New Ross and Gorey. The Constituency Review Report 2023 of the Electoral Commission recommended that at the next general election, Wexford lose a seat to become a four-seat constituency with the transfer of territory in the north of County Wexford to the new constituency of Wicklow–Wexford. Dáil Constituencies
There are 43 multi-member electoral districts, known as Dáil constituencies, to elect 174 Teachta Dála, TDs to Dáil Éireann, the house of representatives of the Oireachtas, Republic of Ireland, Ireland's parliament, on the system of proportional representation by means of the single transferable vote (PR-STV), to a maximum term of five years. Electoral (Amendment) Act 2023
The Electoral (Amendment) Act 2023 is a law of Ireland to revise Dáil constituencies and European Parliament constituencies. The revised Dáil constituencies will come into effect on the dissolution of the 33rd Dáil. The dissolution must take place by 19 February 2025; however, the Taoiseach, Simon Harris has indicated an intention to seek a dissolution of the Dáil on 8 November. The 2024 general election for the 34th Dáil will follow thereafter. The revised European Parliament constituencies were used at the 2024 European Parliament election. Wicklow–Wexford is a parliamentary constituency represented in Dáil Éireann, the lower house of the Irish parliament or Oireachtas, from the 2024 general election. Gorey () is a market town in north County Wexford, Ireland. It is bypassed by the main N11 road (Ireland), M11 Dublin to Wexford road. The town is also connected to the Gorey railway station, railway network along the same route. Local newspapers include the ''Gorey Guardian''. The Government of Ireland Act 1920 (10 & 11 Geo. 5 c. 67) was an Act passed by the Parliament of the United Kingdom to create two separate parliaments in Ireland: the Parliament of Northern Ireland and the Parliament of Southern Ireland. The single transferable vote (STV) or proportional-ranked choice voting (P-RCV) is a multi-winner electoral system in which each voter casts a single vote in the form of a ranked ballot. Proportional representation (PR) refers to any electoral system under which subgroups of an electorate are reflected proportionately in the elected body. The concept applies mainly to political divisions (Political party, political parties) among voters. The aim of such systems is that all votes cast contribute to the result so that each representative in an assembly is mandated by a roughly equal number of voters, and therefore all votes have equal weight.
