Weißenfels Station
Weißenfels station is the station of Weißenfels in the German state of Saxony-Anhalt. It lies at the junction of the Halle–Bebra and the Weißenfels–Zeitz railways. Location The station is located at line-kilometre 32.0 of the Halle–Bebra railway (measured from Halle). In addition, it is the starting point of a line to Zeitz (km 0.0). It lies some distance north of the town centre and near the bank of the Saale. It borders the streets of ''Am Güterbahnhof'' ("at the freight yard") and ''Bahnhofstraße'' ("station street"). The line crossed state road 206 ''(Merseburger Straße)'' at the western end of the station. Großkorbetha station is located about eight kilometres further northeast. Five kilometres to the southwest lies the halt of Leißling. Weißenfels
Weißenfels (; often written in English as Weissenfels) is the largest town of the Burgenlandkreis district, in southern Saxony-Anhalt, central Germany. It is situated on the river Saale, approximately south of Halle, Saxony-Anhalt, Halle. History Perhaps the first mention of the area, before the town itself was founded occurred in 806 CE, when Charles the Younger (''Karl der Jüngere''), King of the Franks, fought and killed two West Slavs, West Slavic ''Knyaz, Knezy'' (princes) nearby: duke Miliduch of the Sorbs and Nessyta (possibly also a Sorbian leader). Miliduch had led a Sorbian invasion of Austrasia. The settlement arose around a castle on a ford (crossing), ford crossing the Saale and received German town law, municipal rights in 1185. Halle (Saale) Hauptbahnhof is the main railway station in the city of Halle (Saale) in southern part of the German state of Saxony-Anhalt. The station is situated east of the city centre and is a category 2 station. The station is one of the most important transport hubs in the state of Saxony-Anhalt. It is a stop for long-distance and regional services. A ''Schnellzug'' is an express train in German-speaking countries. The term is used both generically and also as a specific Train categories in Europe, train type. In Germany and Austria it is also referred to colloquially as a ''D-Zug'', a short form of ''Durchgangszug'' ("through train"), and express train services were often given numbers preceded by the letter ''D''. The InterRegio, often shortened to IR, is a train categories in Europe, train category for mainly domestic train services in use in some European countries, with Swiss Federal Railways operating the most dense network.
