Warriston, Red Hill
Warriston is a heritage-listed duplex at 6-8 Musgrave Road, Red Hill, City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. It was built . It is also known as Berley Flats. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 21 October 1992. History Warriston was built for David Pringle Milne, a Brisbane west ward alderman from 1870–76, retired boot and shoe importer/manufacturer, and proprietor of the Glasgow Boot and Shoe Mart in Queen Street. The semi-detached houses may have been named after Warriston, a northern district of Glasgow. In 1866 and 1874 Milne had acquired two blocks of land fronting Petrie Terrace (renamed Musgrave Road in 1888), and was recorded as resident on the site from the late 1860s. The kitchen houses attached to the present Warriston may be the original Milne residence. Red Hill is an inner northern Suburbs and localities (Australia), suburb in the City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. In the , Red Hill had a population of 5,560 people. Geography Red Hill is by road north-west of the Brisbane CBD. The suburb is very hilly and mainly residential, with shops and small businesses located on Musgrave and Waterworks Roads. History The suburb is one of the oldest in Brisbane. Red Hill is named after its steep hills with red soil and rocks. A Baptist chapel was building in 1874. In 1888, the chapel was replaced by the Windsor Road Baptist Church. As at 2021, the church is still operating and the building is listed on the Brisbane Heritage Register. The Queensland Heritage Register is a heritage register, a statutory list of places in Queensland, Australia that are protected by Queensland legislation, the Queensland Heritage Act 1992. It is maintained by the Queensland Heritage Council. As at 5 April 2020 there are 1790 places on the Queensland Heritage Register, including the Story Bridge in Brisbane and the Ross River Meatworks Chimney in Townsville. Warriston
Warriston ( ) is a suburb of Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland. It lies east of the Royal Botanic Garden in Inverleith. The name derives from Warriston House, a local mansion house demolished in 1966. In July 1600 John Kincaid, the Laird of Warriston was murdered by his wife, Jean Livingstone a daughter of the Laird of Dunipace, her two female servants, and his stable hand. The women were captured and sentenced to be burnt. Warriston Cemetery was opened in 1843 and is now owned by the City of Edinburgh. Warriston Crematorium was opened on 29 October 1929 on the eastern edge of the old cemetery. It was built in 1808 as East Warriston House and converted in 1928/9. Petrie Terrace is an inner suburb in the City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. In the , Petrie Terrace had a population of 1,124 people. Geography The suburb is by road west of the Brisbane General Post Office. The precinct is bordered to the west by Hale Street and to the east by Countess Street.
