WTA 500
WTA 500 tournaments is a category of tennis tournaments in the Women's Tennis Association tour, implemented since the reorganization of the schedule in 2021. At their introduction in 2021, WTA 500 tournaments' prize money was approximately $500,000. Since then, prize money awarded by WTA 500 events has grown less uniform, with one tournament's prize money rising to as much as $1.5 million. The ranking points awarded to the winners of these tournaments are 500. This compares to 2,000 points for winning a Grand Slam tournament ("major"), up to 1,500 points for winning the WTA Finals, 1000 points for winning a WTA 1000 tournament, and 250 for winning a WTA 250 tournament. Linz Open
The Linz Open, currently "Upper Austria Ladies Linz" and formerly sponsored by Generali Gruppe, is a women's tennis tournament held in Linz, Austria. It is played on indoor hardcourts. The inaugural event took place in 1987 in Wels, Austria and was organized by the ITF as a $10,000 tournament. Starting 1991, it has been organized in Linz as a WTA Tour event, initially on the Tier V-level. In 1993 it got promoted to Tier III-level, and since 1998 it was organized as a Tier II-tournament. In 2009, it was designated as a WTA International Tournament and subsequently WTA 250 in 2021 with the change in tournament tier nomenclature. In 2023, the scheduling change in the WTA calendar saw the tournament being held in February instead of October as in the past editions. Katarzyna Piter
Katarzyna Piter (; born 16 February 1991) is a Polish professional tennis player who specializes in doubles. In May 2014, she reached her career-high ranking of No. 95 in singles and in July 2022, No. 66 in doubles. She has won three doubles titles on the WTA Tour and one WTA 125 doubles title, as well as eight singles and 26 doubles titles on the ITF Women's Circuit. Emma Navarro (born May 18, 2001) is an American professional tennis player. She has a career-high singles ranking of world No. 8 by the WTA, achieved on September 9, 2024 and a best doubles ranking of No. 93, set in 2024. The Mérida Open, also known as Mérida Open Akron for sponsorship reasons, is a women's tennis event held in Mérida, Mexico. Mérida Open is part of the WTA Tour and is listed as a WTA 500 tournament as of 2025. The tournament is held at the Yucatán Country Club on outdoor hardcourts. The first edition took place in February 2023 and was introduced as a WTA 250 tournament as a replacement for Abierto Zapopan. The Abu Dhabi Open is a WTA 500-level professional women's tennis tournament. It takes place on outdoor hardcourts, and was introduced in 2021 to be played in the month of January at the Zayed Sports City International Tennis Centre in the city of Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The tournament was introduced due to the suspension of all WTA tournaments in China and delay of tournaments in Australia because of COVID-19 pandemic. In 2023, the event was brought back to the tour as a replacement for St. Petersburg Ladies' Trophy due to the suspension of WTA events in Russia because of their invasion of Ukraine.
