Vincent Gérard
Vincent Gérard (born 16 December 1986) is a French professional handball player. With France, he won all the main competitions: 2014 European Championship, 2017 World Championship and 2020 Olympics. He has been elected best goalkeeper at the 2017 World Championship, at the 2018 European Championship and at the 2020 Olympics. Career Gérard began playing handball in SMEC Metz from the French D2. After three seasons in Metz first-team, while Gérard been some of the most important players in the club, he decided not to renew his contract with Metz and joined Montpellier Handball, from the LNH Division 1. Gérard was not a key part of Montpellier, and selected as 2nd and 3rd goalkeeper. However, he was part of Montpellier's league title win in 2007–08 season. He retired in 2024 after the Paris Olympics, but came out of retirement in April 2025 to join FC Barcelona to replace Gonzalo Pérez de Vargas who had torn his cruciate ligament. 2019 World Men's Handball Championship
The 2019 IHF World Men's Handball Championship was the 26th event hosted by the International Handball Federation and held in Denmark and Germany from 10 to 27 January 2019. It was the first IHF World Men's Handball Championship to include more than one host country. It was also the first time a unified Korean team participated. Denmark, in a clean sweep, won their first title by defeating Norway 31–22 in the final. This was Norway's second final in a row and the first final since 1995 World Men's Handball Championship, 1995 between two nations who had not won before. France captured the bronze medal after a 26–25 win over Germany. The tournament set a new spectator record with 906,283, helped by the fact that there were two home teams. The EHF European League is an annual men's handball club competition organised by the European Handball Federation (EHF) since 1981. It is the second-tier competition of European club handball, ranking only below the EHF Champions League. 2017–18 EHF Champions League
The 2017–18 EHF Champions League was the 58th edition of Europe's premier club handball tournament and the 25th edition under the current EHF Champions League format. Montpellier defeated HBC Nantes in the final to win their second title. Competition format ;Group Stage Twenty-eight teams participated in the competition, divided in four groups. Groups A and B were played with eight teams each, in a round robin, home and away format. The top team in each group qualified directly for the quarter-finals, the bottom two in each group dropped out of the competition and the remaining 10 teams qualified for the first knock-out phase. The EHF Champions League is the most important club handball competition for men's teams in Europe and involves the leading teams from the top European nations. The competition is organised every year by EHF. The official name for the men's competition is the EHF Champions League Men. Gonzalo Pérez De Vargas
Gonzalo Pérez de Vargas Moreno (born 10 January 1991) is a Spanish professional handball player for FC Barcelona and the Spanish national team. Career Vargas started playing handball at his hometown club Amibal Toledo. In 2007, he switched to FC Barcelona Handbol. In the 2010/2011, he won the treble with the club, with the Spanish championship, Copa del Rey and EHF Champions League. For the 2011/2012 season, he joined league rivals BM Granollers. Two years after he joined French side Fenix Toulouse Handball on a three year deal. For the 2014/2015 season, he returned to FC Barcelona to replace Arpad Šterbik. The men's handball tournament at the 2024 Summer Olympics was the 15th edition of the handball event for men at the Summer Olympic Games. It was held from 27 July to 11 August 2024. LNH Division 1, doing business as Starligue and currently known as Liqui Moly Starligue for sponsorship reasons, is the premier men's professional handball league in France. It is administered by the Ligue Nationale de Handball, under delegation from the French Handball Federation. Founded in 1952, it is currently contested by 16 teams. Montpellier Handball is the most successful club with 14 titles, and the club which won the most consecutive titles is Paris Saint-Germain with 11 between 2015 and 2025. The champion and the vice-champion are directly qualified for the group phase of the EHF Champions League. Handball (also known as team handball, European handball, Olympic handball or indoor handball) is a team sport in which two teams of seven players each (six outcourt players and a goalkeeper) pass a ball using their hands with the aim of throwing it into the goal of the opposing team. A standard match consists of two periods of 30 minutes, and the team that scores more goals wins. Modern handball is played on a court of , with a goal in the middle of each end.
