Gonzalo Pérez De Vargas
Gonzalo Pérez de Vargas Moreno (born 10 January 1991) is a Spanish professional handball player for FC Barcelona and the Spanish national team. Career Vargas started playing handball at his hometown club Amibal Toledo. In 2007, he switched to FC Barcelona Handbol. In the 2010/2011, he won the treble with the club, with the Spanish championship, Copa del Rey and EHF Champions League. For the 2011/2012 season, he joined league rivals BM Granollers. Two years after he joined French side Fenix Toulouse Handball on a three year deal. For the 2014/2015 season, he returned to FC Barcelona to replace Arpad Šterbik. In February 2025, he tore his cruciate ligament which has kept him out for the rest of the season. To replace him Barcelona signed Vincent Gerard, who came out of retirement to join FC Barcelona. 2016 European Men's Handball Championship
The 2016 EHF European Men's Handball Championship was the twelfth edition and was held for the first time in Poland from 15–31 January 2016. Croatia and Norway were the other applicants in the bidding process. Poland was awarded the championship on the EHF Congress in Monaco on 23 June 2012 with 58% votes. Germany won their second title by beating Spain 24–17 in the final. Croatia captured the bronze medal after defeating Norway 31–24. 2025 World Men's Handball Championship
The 2025 IHF World Men's Handball Championship was the 29th such event hosted by the International Handball Federation. It was held in Croatia, Denmark and Norway from 14 January to 2 February 2025. This edition marked the first time the world championship was held in three countries. Co-host Denmark were the triple defending champions, having won the 2019, 2021 and 2023 editions, and successfully defended their title by defeating co-host Croatia 32–26 in the final. In doing so, Denmark became the first men's national handball team to win four consecutive world titles. France beat Portugal to win the bronze medals, while third co-host Norway finished 10th. Denmark beat the record for the highest average win margin after 7 matches at a World Championship played with +13.4 goals. 2019 World Men's Handball Championship
The 2019 IHF World Men's Handball Championship was the 26th event hosted by the International Handball Federation and held in Denmark and Germany from 10 to 27 January 2019. It was the first IHF World Men's Handball Championship to include more than one host country. It was also the first time a unified Korean team participated. Denmark, in a clean sweep, won their first title by defeating Norway 31–22 in the final. This was Norway's second final in a row and the first final since 1995 World Men's Handball Championship, 1995 between two nations who had not won before. France captured the bronze medal after a 26–25 win over Germany. The tournament set a new spectator record with 906,283, helped by the fact that there were two home teams. History Early years The handball section of Futbol Club Barcelona was founded on 29 November 1942 during the presidency of Enrique Piñeyro. In the beginning handball was played with eleven players per team and did not have a specialized field to play. They used football fields until the late 1950s, when they started to play, as in actual games, with seven players and a covered field.
