Varsity Lakes is a suburb in the City of Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia. In the , Varsity Lakes had a population of 16,493 people. The suburb was originally known as ''Stephens'' but in 2002 Stephens, Andrews and a section of Robina were amalgamated to form the new suburb of Varsity Lakes. Geography The suburb is bounded to the west by the Pacific Motorway, to the south by Reedy Creek Road, and to the east by Mattocks Road and Bermuda Street. The Gold Coast railway line enters the suburb from the north-west ( Robina) and runs immediately parallel and east of the motorway where the line terminates at Varsity Lakes railway station (). William Stephens (1857–1925) was a businessman and politician in Queensland, Australia. He was a Member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly and a Member of the Queensland Legislative Council. Early life William Stephens was born on 7 November 1857 at South Brisbane, the eldest son of Thomas Blacket Stephens and his wife Ann (née Connah), and raised at the family home of '' Cumbooquepa'' on Vulture Street, South Brisbane. Gold Coast Railway Line
The Gold Coast railway line is an interurban railway line operated by Queensland Rail in Queensland, Australia, connecting Brisbane with the Gold Coast. The line has 17 stations. In 2021, a journey from Central station to the terminus of this line was scheduled to take 1 hour 23 minutes. There are plans for several new stations along the existing line, as well as an extension south. The line ran to Tweed Heads in the early 1900s until the 1960s.
