Valen, Bindal
Valen is a small fjord that branches off of the larger Kjella fjord in Bindal Municipality in Nordland county, Norway. It gets its name from the village of Valen, Nærøy, Valen which lies at its south-eastern end. The mouth of the fjord arm stretches between Skjevelneset on the island of Austra, Norway, Austra (on the west side of the mouth) and Hålopneset on the mainland (on the east side of the mouth). The bay runs southwestwards, ending at the Valastraumen, a narrow channel which links this fjord arm with that of Årsetfjorden in Nærøy Municipality in Trøndelag county. The Valastraumen channel separates the hamlet of Bogen (Austra), Bogen on Austra island from the hamlet of Valen, Nærøy, Valen on the mainland. Although Valen lies mostly in Nordland county, the hamlet of Valen is in Trondelag. Highway 771 runs along the north side of the Valen fjord. References {{reflist Bindal ... In physical geography, a fjord (also spelled fiord in New Zealand English; ) is a long, narrow sea inlet with steep sides or cliffs, created by a glacier. Fjords exist on the coasts of Antarctica, the Arctic, and surrounding landmasses of the northern and southern hemispheres. Bindal Municipality
Bindal is a municipality in the Helgeland region in the extreme southwest part of Nordland county, Norway. The administrative centre is the village of Terråk. Other villages include Bindalseidet, Holm, Vassås, Horsfjord and Åbygda. The municipality is the 81st largest by area out of the 357 municipalities in Norway. Bindal is the 306th most populous municipality in Norway with a population of 1,399. The municipality's population density is and its population has decreased by 10% over the previous 10-year period. Austra is an island on the border between Trøndelag and Nordland counties in Norway. The island is shared between Bindal Municipality, Leka Municipality, and Nærøysund Municipality. The highest point is the Romsskåla. The village of Årset lies on the southeastern shore, along the Årsetfjorden. Årsetfjorden is a smaller fjord off of the main Lekafjorden in Trøndelag and Nordland counties in Norway. The fjord lies mostly in Nærøysund Municipality (in Trøndelag county), but the far northern end of the fjord lies in Bindal Municipality (in Nordland county).
