Thomas Hayman
Thomas Leonard Hayman (24 May 1904 – 2 January 1962) was a New Zealand politician of the National Party and a farmer. Biography Hayman was born in 1904 in Willowbridge near Waimate. He received his education at Nukuroa School and Waimate High School, and left school aged 17 to help on the family farm. Between 1926 and 1945, he worked as a contractor in farming. He was active with several organisations, including the South Canterbury Power Board (where he served as deputy-chairman), chairman of the South Canterbury Federated Farmers, and treasurer of the Methodist Church Trust at Nukuroa. From 1941 to 1949, he was director of the Studholme sale yards. He represented the Otago electorates of Oamaru from 1949 to 1957, and then Waitaki from 1957 to 1962, when he died. William Henry Gillespie (14 August 1893 – 23 April 1961) was a New Zealand politician of the National Party. He was a cabinet minister from 1960 to 1961. Biography Gillespie was born in 1893. He received his education at Ashley Gorge and Oxford District High School, and left school aged 13 following his father's death. David Campbell Kidd
David Campbell Kidd (29 September 1889 – 23 September 1954) was a New Zealand politician of the National Party. Early life Kidd was born in 1889 in Shag Point, Otago and received his education at Albany Street Public School in Dunedin. Together with his brother Peter, he worked on and later managed his father's farm, 'Moss Vale', Mt Nessing Road, Albury. He played rugby for the Albury club before the Great War. He went into World War I with the South Canterbury Mounted Rifles and was wounded in the Battle of Gaza in 1917. After the war, he took up a farm as a crown lease at 'Single Hill" Burkes Pass. In 1940 he purchased 'Manahune' in the Te Ngawai district of Albury. Allan David Dick (1 September 1915 – 15 March 1992) was a New Zealand politician of the National Party. Biography Dick was born in 1915 at Dunedin. He received his education at Otago Boys' High School. After school, he farmed at North Otago, Kurow and then Lilybank Station at the head of Lake Tekapo in the McKenzie Country. He bought Lilybank in 1937. In 1962, he won the 1962 Waitaki by-election, after the sudden death of the Hon. Thomas Hayman, who had been an MP from . He was one of six candidates for the National nomination in this largely rural and safe National seat. He represented the Waitaki electorate to 1969, and then the electorate from to 1972, when he was defeated.
